An anonymous account sent to the newsroom TIRANË - The first account of the incident to be made public. An anonymous phone call came in during the early hours of yesterday morning to the newsroom of the “Gazeta Shqiptare.” The caller, who categorically refused to identify himself, insisted that he had been an eyewitness to the wounding of the Americans. “The group of American soldiers, who had been drinking, tried several times to harass a girl who was at the bar,” the caller claimed. “This made her drivers angry, and that is what happened afterward; she was in the middle of them all.”

The Code was discussed TIRANË - Corruption is a crime punishable under the new Penal Code as well. The penalties were discussed in Parliament, following a government proposal aimed at defining a fight against corruption. Four articles deal with the unlawful acquisition of benefits, abuse of powers granted by the state, and violations of equality in tenders and other competitions organized by the state. This time—unlike in some previous proceedings of the Albanian Parliament—the measure will be adopted with full consensus. The parliamentary political forces have been given the opportunity to show the country that they are all committed to fighting this social scourge. The uncompromising anti-corruption articles call for severe penalties, including imprisonment for anyone who abuses public office to obtain benefits to which they are not entitled. Friday was also a notable day for Albanian legislation, since, following the constitutional debate, the deputies finally approved the last article of the Penal Code. In the absence of consensus on the Constitution, this document takes on primary importance for all Albanian society. The new Code will enter into force on the first day of [unclear] this year. Until then, according to the plan, several other laws should be approved to ensure its proper implementation. The official items on the agenda of today’s National Council meeting will be the party’s organizational issues, also in preparation for the next parliamentary election campaign—this was confirmed to the Gazeta Shqiptare a few days ago by PD Chairman Eduard Selami—but the Council meeting cannot fail to attract interest because it coincides with several financial scandals that have also involved well-known party figures such as Ruli and Uka. After the accident TIRANË - A car bearing a Diplomatic Corps license plate has become the subject of a police search on the city’s streets at night.
