In an extraordinary meeting in the afternoon hours, the National Council discussed Mr. Selami’s request to resign from the duties of party chairman. In his opening speech, Mr. Selami, after explaining his resignation from the post of chairman, also spoke of a political “reintegration” that, according to him, is necessary. “The Government has lacked coordination with the party. To prevent contradictions between them, the post of party chairman must be merged with that of prime minister,” Selami said. He then added that “Aleksandër Meksi is the most suitable person to carry out both functions.” In the later discussions, many Council members opposed this idea, supporting Selami’s continuation at the head of the party.
