BERAT – The dead, according to the first reports, are: Perikli Naçi, 56 years old, bus driver; Petraq Kristaq Nika, 32 years old, passenger; Bardhyl Haxhiu, 58 years old, pensioner; Fiqiri Bregu, 45 years old, mechanic; Myrteza Alija, 27 years old, migrant; and four other passengers whose identities were not immediately known[?].
According to witnesses, the local-route bus left the road on a sharp bend and overturned into the abyss. The cause of the accident is believed to have been a sudden conflict in the cabin and the driver’s loss of control. The injured were urgently taken to the Berat hospital.
Police launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

A fateful day for the country, the Berat road tragedy shocked public opinion. The relatives of the victims gathered in front of the hospital to get news about the condition of the injured. Doctors stated that some of them were out of danger for their lives, while others were in serious condition.
The preliminary investigations are focusing on the passengers’ testimonies and on the skid marks at the scene.

Yesterday the government approved the package of measures for handling the debts of enterprises undergoing privatization. The decision provides for tax relief and new procedures for investors.
The debate at the meeting focused on the responsibilities of the administration and on the way overdue obligations will be settled.
