TIRANA - “Albanian-Greek relations have not broken down over time, but in their state and political relations there have been disagreements that must be overcome,” said yesterday at Rinas airport the Greek Foreign Minister, Karolos Papulias. The head of Greek diplomacy arrives in Tirana on 14 March for a two-day visit during which he will meet the highest officials of the Albanian state. Since today’s meeting with the President of the Republic and Prime Minister Meksi takes place in a climate shaken by the recent incident in Kakavija, the attention of Albanian and Greek public opinion is focused on concrete signs.
At the airport the Greek minister was received by his Albanian counterpart Alfred Serreqi. They had a brief conversation and then appeared before journalists. “The problems we have with Greece are well known, but we see them as problems that can and must be solved with understanding and good faith,” said Serreqi. For his part, Papulias stated that his visit aims to strengthen the climate of understanding and open the way to a new period in bilateral relations. He stressed that Greece supports stability in the region and a democratic, developed Albania.
The meeting comes just days after tensions recorded at the border and the debate over migrants, the minority, and economic cooperation. The Albanian government has expressed the expectation that the Greek side will help lower tensions and find practical solutions to the unresolved issues. According to diplomatic sources, the talks will also address border security, the crossing regime, the activity of extremist organizations, and the possibilities for increasing trade exchanges.
In the city, Papulias’s arrival has generated great interest. Tirana hopes that this visit will provide the right signal for the normalization of Albanian-Greek relations. Concrete results are expected after today’s official meetings.

TIRANA - Is the pit having the last word? A new municipal plan aims to clean the city of waste that is piling up in several neighborhoods. According to municipal sources, urgent measures are being taken to transport the garbage and put additional equipment into service. The problem of public hygiene has become worrying for the capital, and citizens have reacted to delays in municipal services.
Municipal officials said that inspections will be increased, fines will be imposed on polluters, and teams will be organized to clean up the most problematic spots. Part of the waste is being sent to temporary dumps, while a more sustainable solution for its treatment is being sought.
Residents of the affected areas are asking that the intervention not remain temporary, but be followed by a clear plan for hygiene and urban management.

TITAN - The lineup of teams by “Juve” has continued, convincing even the most skeptical that it is destined to win the championship title. The black-and-white team attacked from the first minutes and secured the lead through Ravanelli and Vialli. In the end, the red-and-black “Milan” have remained in third place after an unconvincing run in recent weeks.
BRESCIA - The momentum of “Parma” has been halted, as they managed no more than a draw on Brescia’s field. The home team resisted in an orderly manner and exploited counterattacks, not leaving much room for the visitors’ fast play.
LECCE - At last came the victory for “Reggiana”, which defeated “Lecce” 2-1. The match was intense and full of incidents. The win gives the visiting side breathing room in the fight for survival.
ROMA - “Lazio” takes advantage and moves up after an important victory, while “Roma” disappoints again. The race for the European zone remains open and the week promises more interesting clashes.
Serie A continues to provide excitement, and Roberto Baggio’s return with a beautiful goal has been the most talked-about story of the week.

Bervicë:
government withdraws before the strike
BERAT - The hunger strike of 100 women in the municipality of Kutall continued yesterday, and 50 others joined the 24-hour protest. The women have demanded compensation for the land and houses flooded by the construction of the Bervicë reservoir. According to them, the authorities have been promising a solution for years, but the matter has not moved forward.
Government representatives held talks with the residents and, according to local sources, have stepped back from some initial positions, promising a reassessment of the files. The residents said they will end the strike only after a written decision with concrete deadlines.
In Berat, the issue has sparked strong reactions and is being watched as a test of relations between local government and the central government.
