“We want Arsid in Tirana”
And Hori declares “war” on the documents
The defense lawyers’ request to also hear Meksi, Cene and Bendo as witnesses is rejected
TIRANA - Arsid sits down as the train jolts at the Brryli bend. He looks with unfocused eyes and thinks back over the long road. His words run out and for the umpteenth time he sinks into thought. He thinks of his son. He is ill, seven years old. The flight that will bring him to Tirana seems very hard to him. The presentation of documents in the hearing continues. The defense side pushes ahead with strong determination to present its “bombshells”. They come stacked in numerous folders. The presiding judge, Hado Hoxha, remains calm as he listens to the objections. The lawyers ask that Meksi, Cene and Bendo also come to the courtroom. The request is rejected. The defense insists on Arsid Çela. “We want him in Tirana,” they say emphatically. The presiding judge decides to bring the French negotiator into the courtroom.
TIRANA - In this hearing, the first proof of the explosion of documents seems to be the statement by the deputy prime minister and foreign minister of the time, Servet Pëllumbi, addressed to the EU ambassador, Hug de Lencourt. Even before entering the courtroom, the documents could already be seen. It was the first hearing filled with documents. The defense acted in the same way. The presiding judge Hado Hoxha seemed to understand very well what a file full of documents means. Yesterday, too, the trial of the “Monster” turned into a hearing in which the lawyers sought to present evidence of all kinds. All the documents were submitted at the hearing. Only one thing was missing. Arsid Çela, the man who conveyed to the staff of Hotel “Dajti” the protesters’ instruction to enter the OSCE delegation, did not come. He had been urgently requested by the lawyers. For this reason, a request was also made that he be placed at the disposal of justice. The deputy head of government asked that other personalities such as Aleksandër Meksi, Bashkim Cekaj[?], Ylli Bufi and others also appear at the hearing. The presiding judge did not take the defense request into account.

“I have the original documents”
Lawyer Hoti
Two letters, one prepared by the deputy prime minister and the other by the prime minister’s chief of staff, were presented yesterday to the judge by the defense lawyers. In one of the letters, the deputy prime minister of the government asks the ambassador of the European Community delegation in Tirana to meet the defendants accused of “genocide”.
TIRANA - In this letter, dated 15 September, it is stated that “in accordance with the instructions of the Albanian prime minister, Mr. Aleksandër Meksi, the Albanian government wishes to sincerely thank the embassy of the European Community delegation in Tirana for the assistance and willingness shown in this matter. There is an interest on the part of the Albanian government that certain secret posts such as video recordings and diskettes be made available to the defense lawyers”. Further on, this letter also says that “the fact that these documents seem to be used in the trial, but by an improper procedure, is something that presents a problem. The lawyers may need certain arguments to support their clients”.
At the end of this letter, the Albanian prime minister is asked to intervene to avoid the confidential withholding of the above-mentioned documents. “In short, we ask the ambassador to hand over any unexposed document and material from the process of presenting evidence,” the letter concludes.

“Our organ are being chased with weapons”
TIRANA - Greek secret services recruited and trained the person suspected of being one of the organizers of the Peshkëpi घटना, (D. C.,) declared yesterday in Athens in the presence of the Greek Deputy Minister of Public Order, two lawyers and the official responsible for the accused in MAVI.
... the two lawyers stated that “in the second half of April or at least on 15 June, he was in a military place near Thessaloniki where he was being trained in the use of weapons, bombs and explosives.
... the testimony of MAVI[?]
KORÇË - The Greek defense of the accused in MAVI was presented yesterday with other evidence, where through documents and testimonies it is cast in doubt that Greek police may have exerted pressure on the persons accused of the attack in Peshkëpi. This article says that members of the Greek special forces threatened the relatives of one of the defendants. “This man was found in Peshkëpi and will state what he saw,” says one passage.
The published material says that the Greek police and prosecution are seeking further evidence. According to the lawyers, the arrested persons were held under psychological and physical pressure. The article emphasizes that one of the defendants stated he was forced to sign documents without reading them. The article continues with the claim that weapons training took place in a camp near the border.

Korça without crisis
KORÇË - Thousands of young children are not making a fuss about kindergarten being abandoned by the educators. These days they have been sent home because of the lack of heating and the necessary conditions. The situation has become a concern for families, while educational institutions are waiting for intervention.
The lack of fuel and overdue payments have partially paralyzed public services. In the city, the shortage of bread and electricity is also being felt. Local leaders say the situation could worsen if no rapid action is taken. Families are coping with the consequences on their own.
TIRANA - It has also been announced by the Ministry of Education that the fuel supply crisis is affecting the closure of some dormitories and nurseries. According to the data presented, the most affected are the cities of the southeast. Officials promise measures, but without giving exact deadlines.
TIRANA - Water services and urban transport are also operating with difficulty. Unpaid wages are increasing dissatisfaction in some enterprises. Large shortages in supply are being reported from the districts. The situation is especially severe for low-income families.

The leader of the Communist Party against the sale of land
Codo: “This law should not be approved”
TIRANA - A statement by the Communist Party opposes the draft law on the sale of land. According to this political force, land should remain common property and any transaction involving it is a blow to the public interest. The reaction states that villagers risk losing their basic means of livelihood.
The Communist Party expresses strong reservations about the way agricultural property is being handled. The statement emphasizes that such a law could favor speculators and further worsen the economic situation in the countryside. It calls on parliament not to approve the draft without a broad public debate.
TIRANA - Communist Party officials have asked that the social consequences of privatization be taken into account. In their view, the Albanian countryside remains unprotected in the face of the crisis and the lack of investment. For this reason, the sale of land is considered premature.
