A file accuses Glykata

“Money, weapons and passports have disappeared” TIRANË - The administration of the Sarandë Fishing Enterprise yesterday showed journalists the Ministry of Agriculture and Food's inspection report, which, according to its managers, reveals that tens of millions of lekë have disappeared from the enterprise's operations. The report directly accuses the general director of fisheries, Niko Glykata, as the man who bears direct responsibility and who has violated the laws of the Albanian state. According to the managers of the enterprise, the inspection report lists a series of violations and abuses committed at the expense of the enterprise's assets. Among them are the disappearance of 6.5 million lekë, 83 staff passports, 5 vehicles, and 4 automatic weapons. It also says that a ship was pledged for a transaction and was not returned. At the end of the report, it states that the shortages were found by the commission and are being forwarded to the competent authorities. (Text partially unreadable in the side columns.)

Helping the free press costs little

GAZIQ OLLDASHI TIRANË - At a time when Albanian democracy is going through not-insignificant difficulties, freedom of the press is one of the most important tests of its existence. The free press cannot be sustained by enthusiasm alone; it needs readers, support and subscriptions. An independent newspaper has costs, but it is also an investment in a democratic society. Whoever supports the free press helps transparency, accountability and free speech. That is why subscribing is one of the most concrete ways to support this effort.
