Protests expand: a general strike?

Negotiations with the Government within 5 days Clashes among trade unionists Protests expand: a general strike? TIRANË - The reaction on Wednesday after the student protest, in front of the school wall, has brought the whole country to the brink of an unprecedented protest. No university in the capital has held classes. The Higher Education Union, which organizes the largest number of lecturers, held a meeting yesterday with around 500 lecturers at the “Asllan Rusi” sports palace, where it decided that protests would continue until the demands are met. Also yesterday, students in Vlorë announced powerful protests for Tuesday if their demands were not met. For the umpteenth day in a row, the academic boycott also continued yesterday at the “Luigj Gurakuqi” University in Shkodër. At a time when the protests are growing larger and larger, a clash among trade unionists was also recorded yesterday. At the center of it is the decision that must be taken to move the protests forward. In a statement made yesterday to the press, the chairman of the Union of Independent Trade Unions, Valer Xheka, said that BSP would not support the students' and lecturers' protests. “The Albanian higher school needs transformation, but these problems are not solved in the street. At a time when the social pact is being prepared, existing problems must be resolved through dialogue,” Xheka said. Meanwhile, the Higher Education Union has expressed its disagreement with BSP's position. According to it, this is contrary to BSP's position over the last three years regarding the role and status of the teacher. According to the unionists, the “Social Pact” should not be hindered by protests, but these should serve as an alternative for solving education problems. It became known yesterday afternoon that representatives of lecturers and students would meet with President Berisha. But the meeting was postponed until late at night, since the head of state was in the Gramsh district. The news of the postponement of the meeting has left the groups hoping that the meeting is still possible. This hope was also supported by a statement from President Berisha in the People’s Assembly, where he expressed his desire to meet with students and lecturers and to talk with them. By evening, no such meeting had taken place. (e.l) Clash among trade unionists “BSP does not protest against Education, their demand and the financing system of Education” “The independent ones”: “We appreciate the demands of professors and students and hope they will understand our decision not to join today’s protest.” This decision was taken yesterday by the Presidency of the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Albania at its meeting. “BSP does not agree with some extreme forms of protest proposed by the Higher Education Union and with its demand to give the strike a political character.” The BSP Presidency “does not consider it normal for the protest to take such proportions and for students to stop attending classes for such a long time. Albanian education needs to be reformed and protests for reform should aim very clearly at concrete objectives. We are for recognizing the social value of teachers’ work, for a radical change in their status, for raising salaries to a satisfactory level, for high funding for Education...” Higher Education Union: “Let BSP not obstruct the protest” The Higher Education Union expressed its disagreement yesterday with BSP’s decision. “Our disagreement with BSP’s decision is precisely related to the fact that this organization does not have clear ideas and goals for the powerful protest of lecturers and students, among other things demanding the status of the teacher, which was promised even by BSP leaders themselves.” According to education unionists, the “Social Pact,” which is being discussed with much fanfare, should not obstruct powerful protests by lecturers and students, since this is one of the alternatives for moving Albanian Education forward. In the evening, BSP clarified that its decision “is not against education, but on the contrary, in defense of its reform.”

Bojko: “A bitter experience”

Shkodër worships and uncertainty Bojko: “A bitter experience” This time he wouldn’t have come if he had played football he had played in Europe TIRANË - Unable to put into words the emotions he is going through, the implementation of the local commission’s decision “hurt me,” he said yesterday during a conversation with “Gazeta Shqiptare.” Not being included in the last match may have been not only a warning sign. Expressing his conviction that he had made no mistake either in training or in his general behavior, Bojko calls the decision senseless. “What worries me most is that I am being harmed morally too,” he says. This is about a goalkeeper who was considered one of the team’s most important figures. At a time when the squad is facing decisive matches, such a move is seen by him as unfair. “This time he wouldn’t have come if he had played football he had played in Europe,” he bitterly says, making it clear that his previous sacrifices have not been appreciated. “I’ll tell you how I [?] talked to Hoxha’s son”

The journalist from “Modeste” speaks TIRANË - Today is the time of revelations, documents, and confessions. Hundreds of stories have been fabricated by former Sigurimi members, former masters of propaganda, and even former high-ranking officials of the nomenklatura. But what stands out is the desire to be the first to tell the “secret.” Speaking to “Gazeta Shqiptare,” the journalist of the magazine “Modeste” recounts the circumstances of a conversation he had with Enver Hoxha’s son. According to him, the meeting happened at a completely unexpected moment and the conversation concerned certain issues linked to the figure of the former leader. He leaves it to be understood that the full account is quite interesting and will spark debate. (b.l)

Alsidi trial: the negotiation will not be a failure

The couple overturns the Frenchman’s loss TIRANË - In the university investigation and the decision to overturn the release of the head of the Alsidi process, the defense lawyer yesterday asked the court for a review of the file. He said the previous decision had been hasty and unsupported by sufficient evidence. Meanwhile, the other side insists that the procedures were respected. In yesterday’s session there was talk of testimony, verifications, and the possibility of a solution that would not further worsen the conflict. According to the defense, the negotiation will not end in failure, since room for understanding still exists. From Dallas to Librazhd to save the lung

the box VLASINA - A stop near the place where a person had suffered a tractor accident had left a strong impression on her. In this place, where the road was difficult, she saw up close the lives of the people and the way they tried to survive. Later, in Librazhd, everything took on a different meaning. She decided to help a seriously ill boy, taking an interest in treatment and in the possibility of transporting him to a more specialized center. Her story is linked to a long journey from Dallas and to the effort to save a lung. The story published by “Gazeta Shqiptare” highlights the many difficulties, but also the determination not to give up. In the background remain poverty, lack of means, and the desire to find a chance at life. (e.l) Martha from Librazhd
