The European Commission document on Albania
The “Nano Case” will be discussed in Paris
The reserved report
By CARLO BOLLINO
TIRANA - In Europe, a political and legal issue of importance for Albania remains pending: the Nano case. In a European Commission document, which is expected to be discussed in Paris, questions are raised about the way the case of socialist leader Fatos Nano is being handled. In this report, our country is analyzed within the framework of relations with European institutions and in connection with respect for democratic standards.
According to diplomatic sources, the discussion in Paris is expected to be important not only for the specific case of Nano, but also for Albania’s image on the international stage. The report says that political developments in the country have been closely monitored and that the polarized climate is negatively affecting the normal functioning of institutions. Reservations are also mentioned regarding the judicial process and the international perception of it.
The document, which is circulating in a restricted manner, also includes remarks on relations between the majority and the opposition, on press freedom, and on the need for Albania to send clear signals about strengthening the rule of law. Sources close to European circles say that the debate in Paris could serve as a political test of the official Tirana’s readiness to face criticism and correct course where necessary.
On the diplomatic front, the Nano case has now become a point of reference for many Western chancelleries. It is seen as an indicator of the country’s democratic maturity. Meanwhile, in Tirana the debate remains harsh and marked by strong political tones, while the opposition considers the process politically motivated.
For precisely this reason, the European Commission document on Albania is being followed with great interest both inside and outside the country.

In Konica, Tropojë is preparing the border
(Report)
Among the migrants who have reached the border, tension and waiting are increasing. The Albanian authorities appear determined not to allow uncontrolled entry, while the security forces keep the border area under surveillance. The situation is presented as complex and with a high human burden.
On the ground, continuous movement and uncertainty about the final decisions are reported. Residents of the area express concern, while the authorities repeat that they are acting according to security rules. The refugee crisis has brought a tense atmosphere to the northern border.

The press and intolerance
RD attacks, we respond
TIRANA.- The denigrating language used by “Rilindja Demokratike” toward “Gazeta Shqiptare” and its staff does not bring honor not only to that paper, but also to the Albanian press itself. With a vulgar and insulting vocabulary that has nothing to do with journalistic ethics, it has tried to strike and throw mud at a tangible reality: the success of “Gazeta Shqiptare”, its credibility, and the steady growth of its circulation. Instead of professional debate, readers are offered insults, insinuations, and hatred.
We will not sink to the same level. Our response is work, seriousness, and respect for the reader. This newspaper has been built on professionalism, accuracy, and the will to serve the public. If that bothers someone, so much the worse for them. But no one can deny that the Albanian press needs standards, a spirit of fair competition, and civility.
“Gazeta Shqiptare” will continue on its path, open to criticism, but not to slander. Intolerance is not an argument. And mudslinging is not journalism.
