Cannabis in Elbasan TIRANA—Drug case files at the Tirana Court. Yesterday, three young men from the coast—two from Durrës and one from Kavaja—sat in the dock; they had been arrested in May ’95 by Albanian special forces fighting drugs. The charge of “possession and trafficking of drugs” has also come before the court involving nearly 850 grams of heroin. And while this trial looks set to continue for a long time, another spectacular case is expected to begin on July 18, ’95. It concerns the Turkish trader Mustafa Atasüven. On page 5

Authorizations arrived yesterday at the PS headquarters Meksi houses four Socialists New homes for Dokle, Ruçi and Majko TIRANA—New homes for senior representatives of the Socialist Party. Yesterday, authorizations for the allocation of apartments to politicians and MPs from this party arrived at the PS headquarters: Namik Dokle, Gramoz Ruçi, Pandeli Majko and Mehmet Loçi. All four have benefited from a government provision according to which there is a precedent for providing housing to MPs and senior officials. It was an order from Prime Minister Meksi himself that made it possible to provide new homes to the Socialist representatives, who had submitted their applications some time ago. A list from the head of government sent to Tirana Municipality included, alongside the names of 49 MPs, the names of the PS parliamentarians as well. In the morning, the authorizations also arrived from the housing office, granting all four Socialists a new home. At the PS premises, people say that the four Socialist MPs made their applications two years ago. Meanwhile, it is said that the problem of the other three representatives has still not been resolved, since a large number of MPs and many others are waiting to be housed. Meksi’s order arrived most clearly for Gramoz Ruçi, who will no longer have to live in a rented house. The paperwork is also in order for Majko, who will thus leave the old house where he has been accommodated until now. Dokle, meanwhile, will receive three rooms, one of six, while Mehmet Loçi will have to vacate part of the apartment belonging to Xhelil Gjoni’s five-member household, where he had been staying just a few years ago.
