Geneva alarmed for Nano

Union: "The principles of justice have been violated" The two arrivals this week had the courier’s habit for defending the February resolution on monitoring human rights in due time. The head of the IADL writes that the pursuit of Fatos Nano has no legal but political basis. TIRANE - As feared, after Thursday’s arrests, the international tension over the Nano case has continued to grow. The most alarmed appears to have been the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which has addressed a letter to the UN Secretary-General. Its delivery by special courier, a day after the arrests, leaves little doubt that a move of even greater magnitude is being prepared in Albanian political circles. "I arresto!" - says the Union communiqué, expressing "deep concern about the way the trial against Fatos Nano, the chairman of the PS, is unfolding". Only a few days earlier, in another letter, an organization of democratic lawyers wrote to President Berisha that "the pursuit of Nano is political and not legal". If it continues at this pace, the "Nano case" could trigger a much greater effect than the one calculated by the strategists of his political elimination. (photo: H. Prifti)

TIRANA - UEFA sets conditions:

"Either fewer teams in the Cup" TIRANE - "It was not like that," was the sharp reply given regarding UEFA’s signal by the head of the Albanian Football Federation. Although the sports halls of the Albanian championship have a limited number of seats, the UEFA control commission insists that the national cup final be played only in stadiums with greater capacity. In Tirana, the possibility is being discussed of reducing the number of teams participating in the cup if the conditions are not met immediately.
