The court promises a speedy review
Files once again at the Court of Cassation
TIRANA - “All the trials of politicians will take place before 26 April, the deadline for them to be able to register on the candidate lists.” Confirmation came yesterday from Agim Shkupi, deputy chairman of the Court of Cassation, where a large number of those aspiring to enter the next parliament, but now “burned” [disqualified], have already filed their lawsuits. It seems that this finally resolves what had been regarded as a legal issue: the law gave the Court of Cassation up to 15 days to review cases, creating the risk that proceedings might take place after the final day for registering candidates.

From testimony presented at the Tirana Court against those accused of internment and deportations
TIRANA - “We were interned in a village in Lushnje. There were hundreds of us and dozens of families. We lived in shacks, did the hardest work, and were hated and despised. One day we learned that Mehmet Shehu was going to come to the village, and we decided to complain to him.

The economy in transition: Here are the figures for five years
Gross Domestic Product is growing, but not to the 1990 level
TIRANE - Economic growth of 13.4 percent has once again placed Albania among the fastest-growing transition countries.
The recent confirmation of this fact by the United Nations Economic Commission has brought back into public debate the “paradox” manifested by Europe’s poorest country. Every significant economic figure, when viewed in a politicized environment—especially at a time when an election campaign is heating up—will inevitably pass through political filters of glorification, but also of disregard.

Aerobics on television: specialists protest
Department of Gymnastics: “An amateur program”
TIRANA - Controversy and disapproval in Albanian aerobics circles over the TV program “Aerobics at home.”
This time the criticism has come from specialists in the Department of Gymnastics at U.K.E., specifically from the department’s aerobics coordinator, Dr. Ferdinand Mara.
“The program shown on TV is of a low standard; it lacks the appropriate terminology for a specialized program, has significant shortcomings in the dosing of the workload, and especially in its distribution according to different age groups and sex.” These are harsh words from F. Mara, who goes on: “To present such a program, first of all you must be a specialized person and hold a proper license, whereas the TV program is being conducted on entirely amateur grounds.” It is enough to mention the fact that, according to the TV guidelines, “aerobics is not recommended for pregnant women,” whereas, according to scientific literature, it is not only not prohibited but is advised up to the seventh month. Also, according to the specialist, F. Mara, for every exercise it is essential to establish the exercise method beforehand, especially with regard to age. Mara insists that measuring the pulse—the simplest way of measuring workload—is essential. All sessions should be conducted according to the motto: “Run without sweating.”
This is precisely what the program lacks in order to be made as clinical as possible and placed on the soundest footing, so that it may serve not only teachers but also the education of students.
