STORY Child: kills with scissors, just like in a film BERAT - Aggressive films continue to kill children, while adults continue to stop at merely observing. Another serious incident, caused by aggressive scenes, was recorded yesterday morning in Goriçan, a populated center just 22 kilometers from Berat. A four-year-old girl, A.B., is fighting for her life after being struck not by an aggressor, as one might think, but by... her same-age cousin. Doctors said yesterday morning that the scissors released from her cousin’s hand had pierced the little girl’s heart; she may now become the victim of abusive children’s play, a childish act inspired by violent films shown on the small screen in his home. The serious incident happened at around 9:00 yesterday. At about 3:00 p.m., the little girl was still in a coma, and her family waited in dread for an expanded consultation that would decide on the child’s further treatment. This is not the first time that scenes of violence inspired by the flickering small screen have occurred. Not many months ago, a child from a small town ended his life by hanging himself. Most people learned that the whole bizarre, abusive incident had to do with a suicide scene he had seen in a film. “What do you feel when you commit suicide and when life’s thin thread reaches its end?” This is what the child, bewildered by the weight of the violence displayed before his eyes, wanted to understand. AID SCANDAL / Accused of collaborating with Nano Justice seeks Alia’s son The arrest warrant had been signed three years earlier Prosecutor Qeleshi in Rome during the investigation into Levante Co TIRANA — The justice system sought Ramiz Alia’s son. A few days ago, the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office withdrew the Nano case file from the court; the file concerning the son of the former president, Arben Alia, has also been joined to it. An arrest warrant had been issued for Alia back in 1993, accusing him of being an accomplice of Fatos Nano in the Italian aid scandal. The investigations against him and two other former officials, Pajtim Ajazi and Lutfi Aliaj, had been suspended because they were absent. The new Code of Criminal Procedure now permits investigations and trials in absentia. In this context, the prosecution will reopen the investigation into the aid scandal, but only with regard to the three people who fled Albania. On page 5
