PAD rejects PD’s round table
Ceka: "First denounce the dictatorship"
According to PAD leader Ceka, PD has given no sign of liberalization. He views the prospect of holding elections without foreign monitoring pessimistically.
TIRANA - Is this not the year for the formation of the new single-color government? Or one of the most important parliamentary processes, the elections of October 20, or more precisely, their conduct in the framework of impartiality and foreign monitoring? This is the point from which the opposition has set out after the blocking of a solution to the political crisis. It continues to appear determined to preserve the conditions of competition and freedom of speech. The chairman of PAD, Neritan Ceka, in an interview with "Gazeta Shqiptare" states that without the minimum international standards for free, fair and pluralist elections being met, the opposition has no reason to sit at the round table called by PD.
"With this political behavior and with all of yesterday’s declarations by the President, I think the time has not yet come for the opposition to join the table. That would be meaningless if concrete proof is not first given to guarantee democratic freedoms," Ceka said. He adds that the country needs a new political climate and not imposition. According to him, foreign monitoring is a necessity for credible elections.
