The police officers’ killer captured

Was hiding in a house on the outskirts Tirana, major police operation: Nehat Kulla arrested Kulla had been wanted for several months, accused of serious crimes. Another man wanted for the murder of two police officers was also captured with him TIRANA - Police arrest the highly wanted Nehat Kulla. At two o’clock in the early hours of the morning, following a swift operation, special forces of the Ministry of the Interior captured the man wanted for the murder of two police officers in Tirana. Kulla was living illegally in the home of a friend of his, on the outskirts of Tirana, on “Siri Kodra” Street. The police had surrounded the house throughout the night and then forced him to surrender. His friend, who had sheltered him, was also taken to the police station with him, and many other people were also escorted there. At the house where he was hiding, the police also found a submachine gun, which they say he used to kill the two police-brother, along with four magazines containing 120 rounds, as well as two pistols with 20 rounds. The police accused Kulla of a series of murders and had therefore issued a wanted notice for him. According to sources at the Ministry of the Interior, his criminal activity had begun in 1972, and by now he had been convicted seven times for murder, robbery, assault, rape, and kidnapping. Investigations into him had begun after the murder of the Neziri brothers at Kafja e Rremës on the outskirts of Tirana. On page 5 The detainee Nehat Kulla

Baby with AIDS from the mother’s womb

Infected during a transfusion Virus in the blood. Another victim TIRANA - A baby has been found to be infected with AIDS. The discovery was made by doctors a few days ago. The baby, just three months old, was born with the deadly disease. This all happened because the mother received blood infected with the terrible virus. The child’s mother had been admitted to hospital while the baby was still unborn and had received a blood transfusion after hemorrhaging during an operation. But the blood the doctors gave her contained the virus of death. Along with the mother, a victim of blood infected with AIDS, the baby born afterward also became a victim. The doctors carried out tests, and the result, though not unexpected for them, was distressing. The baby is infected. Doctors say that the chance of babies being infected by the blood of an infected mother is 40 percent, and they hope that after a year, when children lose the antibodies inherited from their mother, they too may escape the tragedy. But there is another possible route of infection that they cannot prevent. While breastfeeding, if the milk is mixed with blood, the baby may receive other dangerous antibodies. This is unavoidable, since the mother continues to nurse her child without knowing about the disease she contracted along with the baby in the hospital. On page 7

I want a divorce: my wife won’t let me into bed

LIBRAZHD - An unusual civil lawsuit has arrived at the first-instance court in Librazhd. IN COURT I want a divorce: my wife won’t let me into bed Unusual lawsuit: the couple have a child LIBRAZHD - An unusual civil lawsuit has arrived at the first-instance court in Librazhd: a man is seeking to end his marriage because his wife no longer agrees to make love with him. After four years of marriage—they also have a child—the couple are seeking a divorce for this reason, which has not previously been brought before the courts; however, the courts are quite likely to consider them to be in such a “predicament” and sign the prelude to a new life for both spouses, apart from one another. This marks another unusual reason for divorce. Very recently, a resident of a village in Elbasan had been unable to endure married life any longer because his wife was very aggressive in bed: she bit him during sex. The judges decided without hesitation to grant them a divorce, and the unfortunate woman, who may also have had physiological reasons, must now spend her nights alone. Statistics show that the number of divorces has risen significantly since 1990. Frequent departures of young people abroad, a more liberal way of life and women’s growing awareness of their freedom are some of the causes behind this new situation. The plaintiff is a 27-year-old man from Karkavec, a village in the Librazhd district, who has filed the suit. Four years of married life have thus reached their conclusion because of the partners’ sexual dissatisfaction with each other. The 27-year-old, the father of a young child, could not endure it any longer. His wife has stated that she will not agree, and has even taken the most extreme step for a married couple: although they have a child in the home, she no longer lets him into bed. The proceedings have not yet taken place, but the judges are quite likely to understand that they are new life for both spouses, apart from one another. Bledar Starova

TIRANA—“Hold a roundtable of the parties, or leave the Council of Europe.” The alarming warning was issued yesterday by the leader of the Albanian Social Democrats, Skënder Gjinushi.

“Parties at the table or away from the Council of Europe”

GINUSHI DECLARES “Parties at the table or away from the Council of Europe” Opposition leader brings a message from Strasbourg TIRANA—“Hold a roundtable of the parties, or leave the Council of Europe.” The alarming warning was issued yesterday by the leader of the Albanian Social Democrats, Skënder Gjinushi. A few hours after his return from Strasbourg—where the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CoE was held—Gjinushi says that “the two other issues that caused concern were the punishment of members who leave the Committees and the failure to approve the anti-genocide law.” According to Gjinushi, these were the “surprises” following the session; the political [unclear] of the CoE did not raise [them] to express their astonishment.
