Sejdia’s debt dollars have arrived

Hope for hundreds of people. $3.3 million from Switzerland at the bank Today the representative of “Iliria Holling” is also arriving in Tirana. Lawyer Dizdari: “Everyone will get their money back” TIRANA - Hajdin Sejdia will repay all the debts he owes to Albanians. The amount of 3.3 million dollars has now arrived in Tirana; according to lawyer Dizdari—who brokered this operation—it is sufficient to settle all the debts, together with interest, that Sejdia owes to hundreds of Albanian citizens. After four years, during which people who had put money into Sejdia’s firm at usurious interest had given up hope of getting it back, lawyer Dizdari seems to have worked a miracle. Following a brief announcement in the early days of Gazeta Shqiptare, yesterday he confirmed that everything is true. “The money has arrived, and it will be returned to the citizens’ homes,” he declared. Today in Tirana, according to him, Sejdia’s representative will arrive, and the following day they will distribute the money taken from the hundreds of citizens who deposited it in Sejdia’s account. “Now all that remains is to reconcile the intermediaries’ receipts with Sejdia’s representative, and the banking operations to repay the citizens’ debts will begin”—these are the lawyer’s latest words. He has worked tirelessly to bring the money back to Albania. Tirana, the pit that bears Sejdia’s name

The Gllavenica Epitaph returns to the Museum

Two people end up behind bars. Suspicions of a wider network Super-operation in Tirana. Four icons and one of Hoxha’s weapons also found TIRANA - The police have returned the famous Gllavenica Epitaph to the National Museum. A successful operation by Police Station 3 and all the police forces in Tirana led to the discovery of priceless works from Albanian history, stolen two years ago from the National Museum in Tirana. For three days in a row, the police carried out a major operation that put the gang of thieves targeting Albanian history behind bars. At 10:15 p.m., the police were in possession of the most precious treasure of Albania’s heritage: the Gllavenica Epitaph, a 13th-century work that is the only evidence of Albanian autochthony. Along with the Epitaph, the police also seized four precious icons, including one by the ancient painter Onufri, the weapons of war carried by Enver Hoxha, as well as the pen of the poet, Andon Zako Çajupi—all stolen during the dreadful midnight of 1994. The thieves said they had hidden in the Museum’s bathrooms when they entered as visitors, and that around midnight they had carried out the most serious attack ever made on Albanian cultural heritage.

Polio Rush to get vaccinated

TIRANA - Concern over the polio vaccine. Yesterday the national vaccination campaign against the deadly disease began. Thousands of citizens, students, school pupils and soldiers rushed to get vaccinated at health centres. Participation among the age groups was considerable. The Hygiene Directorate in the capital stated that around 100,000 people were vaccinated in Tirana during the day yesterday alone. The polio virus appeared in Albania two months ago and, in addition to dozens of seriously ill people, 12 people have died. Under these circumstances, yesterday’s campaign is only the first phase of the anti-polio operation, while the beginning of November will mark its second stage. On page 3

Tirana, alarm in the city centre: “We have planted a bomb”

Strict checks after an anonymous phone call TIRANA - Alarm and fear in the centre of Tirana. An unexpected warning about a bomb explosion caused panic among thousands of passers-by in the squares and main streets of the capital. A mysterious male voice called the Interior Ministry’s secretariat last night at around 8:00 p.m. “A bomb will explode in the centre of the capital at 9:00 p.m.,” were apparently the mysterious man’s words. This was confirmed last night by a senior police official in the capital. The operation by the forces of Police Station No. 3 continued until 10:00 p.m., although, when the bomb had been predicted to go off, fortunately nothing resembling an explosion was heard.
