The defeat, is the opposition in crisis?

Elections, Poli accuses the Socialists Ceka: “The PS forced the small parties to enter the Local Elections” “Here are the culprits” All the latest results of Sunday’s voting by district TIRANA - The Socialists are being blamed for the opposition’s defeat in the Local Government Elections. The sharp accusations were made by the leaders of the Center Pole, Ceka, Gjinushi and Imami, who used the podium at a press conference to announce their shocking statements. The Center politicians reinforced their harsh accusations against the Socialist Party, saying that it was not only responsible for the defeat in the Local Elections, but was also involved in “selling” those elections. The accusations against the PS over the defeat in the local elections have been directed at the Socialists. Former deputy leaders Sera-Pellumbi and Hunan Hajdaraga were attacked by Arben Imami, Secretary General of the Democratic Alliance, as having flirted with Berisha. “The secret plan by Hajdaraga and Pellumbi concerning Berisha caused the opposition to lose the Local Elections,” Imami said. Moving forward in time, PSD leader Gjinushi accuses the PS of having “sold” the Local Elections. “Most of the PS deputy chairs on the commissions signed the minutes even though the elections had been manipulated. There is no change from the previous ruling of the Tirana court concerning Pëkmezi, Isufi, Mosko and Meta. The Appeals Prosecutor asked that the ruling of the Court of First Instance be upheld; it had sentenced them for the activity and re-establishment of the Communist Party, which had been disbanded by Parliament. Pëkmezi was sentenced to 2 years, Isufi to 1 year, Meta to 2.5 years and Mosko to 1 year in prison. Yesterday, at the first hearing of the trial that began in Tirana against the former head of SHIK, Irakli Koqollari, and the former Minister of the Interior, Vladimir Hysi, the materials that had disappeared “on their orders” were made public. Two books in which the activities of local Security Service agents had been archived, and another containing secret materials on the activities of Security Service branches in the districts, were destroyed—according to the prosecution—on the orders of the two former chiefs. The first trial hearing also proceeded with only the witnesses presented by the prosecution, to testify against Koqollari in connection with the charge of crimes against humanity. On page 9

To Nano: “Make changes to the ZP staff”

TIRANA - Popullit”. From behind the bars of Bënça prison, the socialist leader wrote his request to the leadership of the Socialist Party: “Change the newspaper’s staff. Replace them with young people who are in keeping with the latest changes in the party.” The letter arrived about two weeks ago at the central headquarters of the major opposition party. According to a member of the Socialist Party leadership, Nano asked the leadership to consider his request at one of its upcoming meetings. But the policy of change that Nano was once again putting forward for the PS party structures has not found support among members of the party leadership. It is reported that a statement by Rusa—according to which, if he were moved from the newspaper to a ZP newspaper, he would leave—put an end to the discussions once and for all. On page 2

He was paid to do military service

FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY He was paid to do military service He replaced his friend for 10,000 lek a month LUSHNJE - “At least there, food is provided and the pay is no lower than that of a civil servant.” This must have been more or less the reasoning of a young man from a village in Lushnje who enlisted in the army in place of another young man, who was abroad as an emigrant. With the rather unusual occupation of stand-in, the young man from Lushnje earned 10,000 lek a month, paid regularly until the double deception was discovered. He has now been detained by the military police and has not yet been informed of the charge. The zealous recruit is expected to appear before the courts today, which will decide on the security measure to be imposed on him. He was 20 years old and had agreed to put on the green uniform, presenting himself under the name of a fellow townsman who was living as an emigrant in Italy. The emigrant, Armando Aliu, paid him a “salary” of 10,000 lek every month. The reward, along with free meals, had persuaded the young man Hoshafi to agree to act as a stand-in for another year. He himself had completed his service in the military unit a year earlier, in a unit in Vlora, near the Kryegjyshat. Following a tip-off, the unit’s authorities decided to put Hoshafi to the test: they called him by his real name, and for a moment he forgot and answered. The document-verification procedure followed, and the deception behind the “innocent” fraud, which had gone on for several months, came to light. This unusual recruit, who revived the profession of stand-in, could at the very least be charged with document forgery. Hurma Redhi
