The conflict between Dervishi and Zaçe: A compromise now?

Hafizi appeals to the parties Zaçe TIRANA - Once again, the Zaçe-Dervishi duel[?] parties are back in their trenches, although the signals of a willingness to back down have been positive. Naturally, a compromise between them is expected soon, which will make it possible for the international match to take place and for Albania to be readmitted to FIFA. The matches of the 14th week of the national championship are also being played today. In Shkodër, Tirana and Vllaznia will play to show that they are truly rivals to Flamurtari in this championship, while Partizani play Apolonia in Tirana to shake off the image of the Peqin comedy. Hajdari: “They falsified the DP Statute”

Vejsiu: “We are consistent in our decision” The Democratic deputy hits back sharply after being expelled from the National Council Azem Hajdari accuses the Democratic Party of manipulating its Statute. At a press conference, the Democratic deputy responded sharply to the DP’s recent decision to remove him from the National Council. “The Statute on the basis of which Shehu removed me from the Council does not exist,” Hajdari declared. He also made serious accusations against the leading figure of the Democratic Party, Tritan Shehu. In Hajdari’s view, the DP chairman appears to have shown a marked lack of responsibility when formulating his suspension from the National Council. “Shehu did not express such a thing properly,” he said. [Unclear: “Vendosëm në kampin politik të PD”] regarding the decision made two days earlier against Hajdari. Organizational Secretary Ylli Vejsiu told Gazeta that “we have made a decision concerning a man who does not wish to remain in the DP.” Vejsiu rejected Hajdari’s claim that the statute under which he was expelled does not exist. The human bomb faces the death penalty

New testimony overturns the course of the trial Yesterday, statements by witnesses from the scene went against Buza TIRANA - Ilir Buza, who tried to meet President Berisha with a bomb in his hand, faces the death penalty. Testimony from two senior police and special-forces officials appears to have worsened his position in the trial. Three days ago, when the judicial investigation had concluded, the prosecutor had proposed taking new testimony, including that of two directors from the Ministry of the Interior. The witnesses who testified before the judges were the Ministry’s Director of Police, Arben Prenjasi, and the head of the special forces, Paulin Sterkaj. Both police officials stated that he had threatened to detonate the bomb and kill them if they came closer[?]—testimony that contradicted their earlier statements. For this reason, the judges decided that at the next hearing the witnesses would be confronted before the court. On page 9

Business from around the world “takes over” Tirana

Investment Conference begins TIRANË - More than 140 company representatives from 25 countries around the world gathered yesterday in a hall at Tirana’s Palace of Congresses for the proceedings of the Third International Conference on Foreign Investment. These proceedings are also another effort by the Albanian Government to attract the attention of the international business community and its capital to the Albanian economy. At the opening of the proceedings, Government Cabinet chief Meksi gave a welcome address, inviting foreign businesspeople to invest in Albanian soil. Discussions at the conference will continue today and will address issues concerning the legal framework, privatization, and the banking system in relation to foreign investment. On page 11

Borrowing even the weather from Europe

On TV, the forecast is provided by Euronews TIRANË - Borrowing even the weather forecast from Europe. In a difficult position, Albanian television has been forced to put together a mix of foreign television networks to explain what the weather will be like in Albania. But this time it is not its fault. The central Meteorology Office is not functioning. “We have no funds,” is the response from the staff, who are unable to get in touch with any district. Geography seems to be coming to the television’s aid. Yesterday’s weather forecast showed satellite images over Europe, with Albania also appearing in one corner of the screen. Really small, but visible nonetheless. Some clouds could also be seen covering it completely. After the forecast from the “Canale 5” network, they switched to Euronews to close the broadcast. But what were the temperatures and precipitation over the country yesterday? Foreign television stations naturally cannot provide that. At the meteorological centre, they shrug. Even if a weather disaster were to happen, perhaps it would take days for anyone to find out. Yesterday, information about the weather in Albania was borrowed from foreign television stations. Fortunately, our country could be seen in a corner of the small screen. TV headquarters

KRUJË - For many years in a row, he had chosen the street as his home. He lived alone, far from everyone, but on the day he died the people of Krujë gave him a magnificent funeral. KRUJË - gave him a magnificent funeral. Elmaz Malja, the mystical man who astonished his fellow townspeople, passed away two days ago. Malja had lived a whole life filled with almost unbelievable episodes. Years ago, he was left alone after losing his family, and from then on he chose the city streets as his dwelling. He refused all the requests from relatives to live with them, yet he continually remained someone who inspired admiration and fear. He lived on the help others gave him, but he never held out his hand like the “professional” beggars. And he repaid the kindness of the townspeople with an unusual deed: he collected the city’s various rubbish and burned it. This ritual was repeated every day until age and illness forced him to find shelter: recently, he began living with a friend of his. He died there. The news was sad for most of the people of Krujë. Ten[?] cars accompanied Malja’s funeral procession, the strange man who had chosen the streets as his home. Mu. Ar.
