Serbian bombshell: I will pay the words

Seeks concessions to buy pyramid debts The proposal is ready for the union. Nobody is in hydroenergy and I will return the lost money to the Albanians TIRANË - An invitation to talks between Albania and Serbia about the possibility of a group of Serbian companies paying the debts of Albanian pyramid-type firms in exchange for concessions in the exploitation of certain industrial works. A written proposal for the establishment of an Albania–Yugoslavia economic union has been sent to the highest leaders of the Albanian state and, through a senior Albanian official, has reached the desks of Prime Minister Bashkim Fino, Foreign Minister Arjan Starova, as well as Trade Minister Behar Ulqinaku. According to serious sources, the written proposal indicates that Albanian and Serbian representatives met a few weeks ago in the Italian city of Trieste. The written report does not lack elements of a detailed economic plan, in which concessions, the expansion of trade exchanges, and several other steps toward bringing the two countries closer are envisaged. In this proposal, the Serbian side, among other things, undertakes to buy the bonds distributed by the Albanian state to compensate those who lost money in the pyramid schemes. The Serbian side also shows interest in hydroelectric plants and certain industrial sectors, which would be transferred to the union at a later stage. The material mentions that a similar meeting had taken place before, but the political situation in Albania and in the region did not allow it to be carried out. The proposal has been viewed with great reserve by Albanian officials. Page 2 provides further details about the content of the plan and the channels through which the contact was made.
