BOMB ALERT TIRANA - Tirana’s “presidential neighborhood” has been left without garbage bins just one day after the attack on the Head of State. Barely 24 hours have passed since the bomb was planted in Rrashbull, and a number of people have set about removing all the garbage bins from the neighborhood around “Fortuzi” Street, where the President of the Republic currently lives. The official reason: the plastic bins could potentially be dangerous; someone might place a bomb in them. The “fashion for bombs” that has swept through the rest of the country has now, for the first time, also created a hygiene problem. None of the residents of the neighborhood near the residence of Berisha himself was surprised on Thursday evening when the garbage bins, where they were used to throwing away their daily rubbish, began to be removed. The sensational news about the attack by the young man from Shkallnur had made them believe that bombs could be hidden in any nook. It was precisely this suspicion that led to measures being taken for President Berisha’s security. An order from the Directorate to the entire network of Tirana Municipality was conveyed by telephone to the well-known “Suberma-men” unit, which had long been dealing with the capital’s refuse. No lengthy explanations were needed. “The bins must be removed for security reasons,” the clear order stated. Just a few hours were enough for the order to be carried out; the large bins were removed immediately. Now, the residents of this neighborhood have to do a few other things in order to throw away their rubbish: the bins have disappeared, but this does not seem to bother them much. “Better without bins; that way bombs won’t come here.”

TIRANA - Gunshots and panic around Berisha’s would-be attacker. It was apparently not meant to be that Ilir Çeta, the man who planted Wednesday’s bomb against the President of the country, would finally find peace while in the grip of Justice. Just a few hours after his transfer from the Military Hospital in Laprakë to the prison hospital, gunshots rang out. A life was put in danger for a little over 15 minutes near the prison hospital. TIRANA - Since last night, the hours of the curfew have been shortened by two hours. Movement is now permitted from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. This was ordered yesterday by the Ministry of the Interior in a decision of its own. After extensive consultation with all the political parties participating in the elections, the Ministry yesterday ordered all police stations in Tirana and the country’s districts to take strict measures to ensure the electoral campaign. The Ministry notes that, at the parties’ request, the largest possible number of forces will be made available to them to maintain order at election rallies. Under last night’s order, the public-order forces must guarantee freedom of movement for representatives of political entities, candidates, and foreign and domestic observers. Measures have also been decided for guarding the buildings and centers where voting will take place, while ballot boxes will be transported accompanied by representatives of the polling station and the police. Meanwhile, it is understood that the movement ban on election day will be lifted.

19 DEAD? Suspended over a slip of the tongue TVSH newsreader, a “victim” of the bombs TIRANA - The television station that covers the events has closed its doors to Fioralba Shehu. A “fatal” mistake while reading the news has cost the young journalist from the Information Department dearly. This was the latest consequence of an alleged bomb explosion that had sown terror at “Freska”. The punishment came just two days ago and has resulted in Shehu being suspended from the screen for four weeks. The sad story of Fioralba Shehu began on Monday. The bomb that exploded in the incident in Tirana was the focus of that day’s news bulletin. It was during the 4 p.m. edition that Shehu made the fatal mistake. Instead of “19 injured,” she said “19 dead” in the explosion at Lush Përballi’s establishment. Everything was corrected after the report on the events was broadcast, but that was not enough to absolve Shehu. The way she corrected herself apparently did not seem sufficiently professional to the senior managers of Radio Television. Reliable sources told Gazeta Shqiptare that the decision which brought the journalist’s “suspension” was communicated by the director general himself, Bardhyl Pollo. It seemed that the journalism student’s adventure in the Information Department had ended peacefully. But on the phone, she was told to temporarily leave a position she had held for several years. Shehu had hosted cultural programs, which were broadcast for nearly two years before she was brought in by Albanian Television. She had taken up a television “profile” a few months ago, when she was appointed to the Information Department. Recent events on screen had brought Shehu into the news bulletins, but the tension of the times seems to have been difficult to handle given the limited years of television experience she had under her belt. p. re.
