“Ukaj, pain and a Shkodër”

THE TRUE JOURNALIST SHKODER - For the first time I found myself asking on which side of the skin I had been before? In Albania, after all, the times of the past and of the future are wrapped in the same cloth. This happened a few hours before the start of the parliamentary session in the “Migjeni” theater, shortly before Gramoz Ruçi, elected deputy in Shkodër, was to appear before the electorate that voted for him on 29 June. The square in front of the “Migjeni” theater was filled with bullets, broken glass, threats and bloodstains. Lost-looking people, angry and tired, were waiting for the arrival of the head of the socialist parliamentary group. On the edge of the city, a black road emerges from the lake, with people and cars. Forced to take up arms, they were walking toward the center, in protest. The first to go up to the podium was Ukaj. A calm man, with downcast eyes, his head turned aside and tangled in anger, he begged the crowd to stay away from the mob, not to start anything. “You know what Shkodër is like, but we will act wisely,” he said.
