Arnauts, the head of the Bank?
TIRANA - The formalization of the office of President has given former head of state Sali Berisha the chance to build, in a certain way, the alibi of invisibility. It is no longer necessary to know whether he was questioned or investigated even once in order to understand what happened with the usury scheme.
Foreign and domestic Prosecutors General, since the case was announced, have spoken mainly about documents and about other figures involved in the scandal. Berisha’s own name has been carefully avoided, even in public statements. However, the big question remains: is there or is there not a file on the former President?
Sali Berisha
TIRANA - If you leaf through the newspapers of recent months, his name appears more than that of anyone else. But that does not mean he appears in a criminal file. Sources from the Prosecutor General’s Office said yesterday that so far there is no separate file on Sali Berisha regarding the pyramid schemes.
According to these sources, the investigations have focused on the activity of the companies and the people who ran them, while political responsibility has not yet been translated into criminal responsibility. That is why the former President has never been formally summoned for questioning.
The sources add that current law does not allow such a charge to be brought solely on the basis of political or moral responsibility. For criminal proceedings, direct evidence, orders, documents, decisions, or clear personal gain are required.
The photo shows a moment from the rally held after Berisha left office. In political circles, the debate continues over whether he did or did not bear responsibility for creating the climate that favored the flourishing of fraudulent schemes.

Was it the brother who shot? Sadiku: “I do not recognize his body”
(photo on page 10)
TIRANA - The initial investigation into the murder of 18-year-old Bledar Veizi, who disappeared two days earlier, has led to strong accusations by the police against the prosecutor’s office. According to police sources, a person who had previously been arrested and later released was involved in this case. The police claim that the prosecutor’s office neglected a case that could have prevented the crime.
Yesterday, family members and close witnesses were questioned. The victim’s brother was also at the center of suspicion, but a statement by relative Sadiku added even more mystery: “I do not recognize his body.”
The incident has shaken public opinion and opened a debate about cooperation between the police and the prosecutor’s office. The investigation continues.

PD boycotts Parliament committees
“Threatening letter” and the San Egidio agreement
The opposition’s stance: “It will not be done; they will enter even with sacrifices”
TIRANA - The new government and the discussions over the appointment of the chairs of parliamentary committees brought the first major clash in Parliament yesterday. Democratic Party MPs boycotted the committees, describing the process as one-sided and contrary to previous political agreements.
According to opposition representatives, the majority is excluding them from decision-making and violating the San Egidio agreement. An official letter sent to Democratic MPs was described by them as “threatening”.
In their reactions, PD leaders declared that they would not back down and that they would enter the committees “even with sacrifices” if participation according to their political weight were denied. Meanwhile, the other parties called for calm and institutional dialogue.
The parliamentary crisis is expected to affect the pace of Parliament’s work in the coming days.
