Usury defeats the government

Alimuçaçi: "I did not win, but VEFA’s creditors did" "Urgently, within the rules of the state. My capital amounts to 4 billion dollars. We know how to protect our money ourselves" Vebi Alimuça[j] Government Hall TIRANA - VEFA defeats the state representatives in the Court of Appeals. Based on a ruling announced yesterday by the black robes, the administration of Vebi Alimuçaçi’s firm is to be sold, or the creditors will win. The victory that is won is not an individual victory, even when Vebi Alimuçaçi has not put his name to it. The same man, together with the investors, wins a battle not against the state, but against some hasty decisions. The Court of Appeals considered the first-instance decision on the administration of VEFA to be wrong. "If the prime minister is 15 meters tall, he cannot trample the courts underfoot," Vebi Alimuçaçi declared yesterday. According to yesterday’s ruling of the Court of Appeals, civilian administration, and not state administration, must be applied at VEFA. According to VEFA representatives, another government plenum must be convened immediately to enforce this decision. But the presidential spokesman, Ridvan Bode and Skënder Gjinushi interpret it differently. The success of Alimuçaçi? 1 Shaken Albania[?] by the investors, VEFA’s creditors, although they won with yesterday’s decision, will have to wait a few more days to receive some money. Prime Minister Nano must issue the written version of the Court of Appeals decision. He may overturn the decision with another government, but for now his task is difficult. The black robes yesterday overturned the earlier decision that stripped Alimuçaçi of the right to take part in VEFA’s management. According to the court’s ruling, the administrator proposed by the government can be appointed only by the Supervisory Board and not by the court. Yesterday’s decision is final and immediately enforceable. (To be continued on page 3)
