The belated declaration of a national disaster by the authorities on the one hand, and the inaction of foreigners on the other, have turned Northern Albania into an area where life and vitality no longer exist. Landslides have buried hundreds of houses; the chances of epidemics developing are many. At least 10,000 people have been left without a roof over their heads and have lost hope of finding their relatives. Yesterday, hundreds of thousands of hungry people flooded the streets of the devastated areas, seeking food aid, medicines and drinking water. In Tropojë, Kukës and in the most affected areas of Has, a dramatic exodus of families toward other cities has begun. The surviving residents are calling for immediate intervention from the state and international organizations. The aid that has arrived is insufficient. That is what the chairman of the Albanian Parliament, Skënder Gjinushi, an ally of Prime Minister Fatos Nano, believes. Gjinushi accuses the leader of the PS of not consulting his partners at all about the agreement with the PDK. "We joined him, but not his tricks." Pëllumbi’s doubts about the PS move are inevitable for the ministry in Tirana at the top. The prime minister has shown indifference and provocation toward the coalition issue. On Sunday, after the presidency meeting, concrete formulas will be discussed, he writes. According to Gjinushi, the delay is harmful for the PS and the coalition. But almost three days have passed since the first days of the tragedy and no one is coming to help the residents of the North. In Kukës, the local authorities are acting too late. At least these are the data coming from the field. In many villages the aid has still not arrived. The affected residents roam among the ruins looking for food, clothing and medicine.
