From Gjadër and Kuçovë, bombings against the Serbs

NATO threatens Belgrade, the first planes in a few days DYPJESË? writes NANO [?] Serbian military units were deployed yesterday in the 6th-rës? area, along with 4 attack helicopters and a considerable number of tanks and artillery pieces. Also yesterday, in the center of Belgrade, hundreds of Serbian students and citizens demanded, with banners, Miloseviç's removal because of his aggressive policy. Meanwhile, in a few days, NATO planes will bomb Serbian targets in Kosovo. The rocket armament of the American and German forces has been put in place and ready. The news is published by the major American newspaper "Washington Post", which reported that around 2,000 NATO troops, deployed in the Republic of Macedonia, will go to Albania. They will use the two prepared airports, Gjadër and Kuçovë, for their mission of bombing Serbian military targets. Diplomatic sources say the NATO air strike will begin by the end of this week, if Miloseviç continues his repressive policy in Kosovo. Western sources believe that in the second phase of the operation, NATO aircraft will also use the Kuçovë base. It is understood that the Albanian government has given its consent for the use of the air bases. Read on about the latest developments and international reactions. BURGJEVICE? OR BURGJEVIC? Pashko: The truth about the agreement

INTERVIEW / "These favor the diplomatic passport" A long conversation with the economist and well-known politician about his disputes with Prime Minister Nano over the issue of the agreement between the government of Tirana and that of Athens. The academic's latest clash with the current government over this issue, according to him, is linked to the idea of a political course pursued by this government. In his conversation with "Gazeta Shqiptare", Professor Gramoz Pashko lays out the full arguments for why he opposes the Albanian government on this issue, while also supporting his claims with official documents and facts. Pashko, among other things, says that the current government has accepted clauses unfavorable to our country, for which he says there will be consequences. For this and for the disputes that have taken place, read the full interview on page 4. On page 4

UN to Tirana: We should collect the weapons

Hididragas?: We collected only 10 percent TIRANË — The number of weapons that remained in circulation among the people is a real problem in Albania. At least that is what the United Nations representatives who worked in Albania after the unrest think. In their summary report, made public only yesterday, they state that in their mission they have not been able to collect more than 10 percent of the arsenal stolen from the depots of the Albanian army. According to the report, the Albanian police called on the UN at the beginning of 1998 to study the possibility of increasing assistance for weapons collection, while the Albanian state had failed to do such a thing itself. The task of the arms experts was to help the Albanian authorities create favorable conditions for people to return the weapons, as well as to prepare the ground for the destruction of the collected weapons. Last November, the experts failed to reach Albania. Only in January 1998 was their mission established after it was ensured that its personnel would be under police protection. "This was necessary because people would cause trouble if they saw foreigners from the police post doing peacekeeping," the report says. Ceka has noted that PAJ [?] was the undisputed decision of the government. "The vote was considered," Ceka told AP [?]. Ceka denied having defended the parliamentary decision.
