"They trained us to kill Kosovars"

Milosevic wants to be attacked by NATO with NATO being attacked too The Kalashnikovs, shovels and anti-gas gear were brought back yesterday The defense of the containers with the weapons of Marasi TIRANA - Two deserters from the Yugoslav army arrived in Tirana yesterday. At least that is what the two young men from Mitrovica in Kosovo, members of the Special Forces of the former Yugoslav Army, claim. Dressed in their military uniforms, with automatic rifles in their hands and tired faces, they told journalists and cameras yesterday that they fled so as not to kill their Albanian brothers in Kosovo. Their testimony was shocking: “In military units they teach us how to fight against Kosovars, how to shoot at them, and they tell us that the time will come when we will enter Kosovo.” According to them, Milosevic's regime wants to present the conflict as an external threat, in order to justify a clash with NATO and inflame Serbian nationalism. Tragedy at the Prime Ministry: Fino's bodyguard killed

Police: He was playing with his pistol TIRANA - Only one word can describe what happened yesterday at midday in front of Prime Minister Nano's office door: tragedy. The 29-year-old bodyguard, non-commissioned officer of unit 326, Sokol Hoxha, lost his life because of carelessness with his pistol. His fellow non-commissioned officer, Fatos Leka, was also wounded by the bullet fired from his weapon. Was the pistol loaded? The press and propaganda office staff had feared the worst. Prime Minister Nano thought the same. When he was informed of the incident, he immediately left the ceremony for the placement of the bust of Avni Rustemi in the Prime Ministry courtyard. He later met the families of the two non-commissioned officers, expressing his condolences. After the preliminary examination, police stated that the victim was accidentally shot with his own “TT” pistol, caliber 7.62 mm. According to specialists, this type of automatic weapon is equipped with a safety grip. Such a pistol fires only if a cartridge is in the chamber. “While cleaning the pistol, or playing with it, Sokol Hoxha carelessly shot himself in the head,” police specialists say. Sokol Hoxha had just turned 29. Originally from Delvina, he had been living in rented accommodation in Tirana for some time. Hoxha had finished secondary school and was admitted to the police ranks in January 1997. At the time of the incident, according to police sources, he was wearing the blue uniform. His record contains only positive evaluations. On page 4 Sokol Hoxha, the prime minister's bodyguard, killed yesterday accidentally

Milosevic wants to be attacked by NATO

bashkim cingall The Koha Jonë journalist in Kosovo, who happened to be at the scene of the gunfire by chance, describes the horror of that bloody afternoon. First, he recounts how he was spending the afternoon with his friends. Then, at the moment when a burst of automatic fire shattered the silence, everything turned to panic. A young girl fell near him, people were running without knowing where to hide, while he himself tried to understand where the bullets were coming from. The scene he describes is filled with painful details: wounded people lying in the street, screams, blood and overturned vehicles. He recalls how he helped a badly hit boy, while others desperately searched for their family members. In the end, the journalist raises the question of whether this terror was random or part of a strategy to provoke foreign intervention and later use it as political justification. On page 3
