The Minister of Defense, Luan Hajdaraga [?], and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paskal Milo, declared that the Albanian army is ready to defend the country’s territory and that any violation will receive the response it deserves. The General Staff has rejected the Serbian protest note, calling it invalid and provocative. In a separate reaction, former president Ramiz Alia declared that the Contact Group strangled the KLA, criticizing the international stance toward developments in Kosovo. The pain of powerlessness

ALFRED MOSIU In such moments, in the name of feeling, we express the ideal that an ordinary person imagines for the homeland. When we turn our eyes to ourselves, our achievement in 7 years is this: the country is poor, people are sad and without hope, officials stand by and watch, the state is weak, the police and the army are disorganized, and the events in Kosovo weigh heavily on the situation. According to the author, the great concern is the state’s inability to guarantee order, protection and the dignity of the Albanian citizen. He criticizes the lack of state responsibility and warns that people’s patience is running out.

The heat reaches its peak, Albania remains without water

Yesterday in Tirana the temperature reached 42 degrees. Drinking water alert in the capital and in the districts WATER UTILITY: Electric power is hindering us. KESH: That is not true TIRANA - The Albanian “extreme” temperatures, mainly in the north and along the coast, have reached unusual peaks in recent days. Just yesterday, the thermometer in the capital climbed to 42 degrees Celsius, while in several districts of the country the heat was just as high. The situation has also been worsened by the lack of drinking water in Tirana and in other cities. Durrës, Korçë, Krujë, Vlorë and other cities have reported serious problems with water supply, while the relevant institutions are exchanging blame. The water utility says that power cuts are hindering normal water supply, while KESH rejects that claim. On page 4

Socialists block the Constitution

Suddenly the PS changes its mind: No to the council TIRANA - “Seeks salvation through the changing of the spy” [?]. This is one of the phrases accompanying yesterday’s political debate regarding the progress of the constitutional process. The Socialists have blocked the approval of the draft, changing their position and refusing to accept the council’s formula. According to political sources, the sudden decision has caused strong reactions in the opposition ranks and has further delayed the deadlines for adopting the Constitution. On page 4

The pain of powerlessness

ALFRED MOSIU Under conditions of growing insecurity, the Albanian person feels unprotected. This is the pain of powerlessness: seeing the state weak, the institutions disorganized, and not being able to find a hand to lean on. The events in Kosovo and the tensions on the border deepen this anxiety, while hope diminishes. The author calls for responsibility, organization and national dignity.
