Nano’s extortion
ANDI BEJTJA
Socialist power is changing more and more every day in terms of its character. Or, more precisely, it is turning into the kind of rule associated with the strongman. This is shown not only by the way it behaves toward the opposition. One does not need to make much effort to understand that something like this is happening every day with the media as well. Journalists who write against the government are being taken to the police station. Groups of thugs are appearing in front of newspaper editorial offices. Ministers are threatening criminal proceedings. But these are only appearances. The essence is more serious. The people who run the state are behaving as if they were its owners and are demanding tribute from anyone who does not obey them.
In this sense, the latest story involving fines and pressure on businesses and the media is not merely a sign of political nervousness, but a method of governing. When politics becomes mixed with revenge and the administration with pressure, then the state ceases to be a public service. It becomes an instrument of punishment.
This climate is producing fear, but at the same time also resistance. It is clear that the country cannot move forward with the logic of tribute and with the standard of forced obedience. A serious state does not silence criticism; it responds to it. Otherwise, the extortion will not remain Nano’s alone, but that of the entire system.
