Hajdari’s killer in Milan

The bodyguard’s mother says: They disappeared after the attack FAILED MISSION Nano challenges Europe: He does not want pressure by order, but lessons on not fighting Albanians TIRANË - The killer is in Milan, and with this announcement, one day after the attack, it can be said that those who ordered it are abroad. Guided by this version, SHIK was also investigating yesterday precisely along the Italian line. According to a notice distributed yesterday, shortly before the start of the parliamentary session, by the Ministry of the Interior, SHIK agents have come upon an attacker of Kosovar origin. The official source of this information does not give the person’s name, but states that he entered Albania on Wednesday and left the same day. The person who carried out the killing of Hajdari entered with a false passport, but the name under which he entered Albania is that of the Kosovar citizen Dyljacalaj[?]. The main suspect for Hajdari’s killing, according to the Ministry of the Interior’s notice, is said to have gone to Milan, from where he is suspected of having received the orders to carry out the execution of the Democratic deputy. In the Ministry of the Interior’s notice, it is stated that those who gave the orders were abroad and used two Kosovar citizens to carry out the attack, one of whom has been detained. For the moment, the names of the two suspected persons are not given, but it is known that to date the police have detained only the Kosovar citizen Dyljacalaj[?]. We have no information that the attacker has gone to Italy, said the head of the State Police, Arben Rakipi. Although yesterday the police chief officially said he considers the reports about attackers from Kosovo to be untrue, the police said yesterday that it is conducting investigations along several lines. Also, as of yesterday, the name of the other suspect believed to have been an accomplice in the execution of deputy Azem Hajdari has not been made public. Relatives of Hajdari’s slain bodyguard testified yesterday that shortly before the attack in Tiranë, two cousins of the slain officer had arrived. After leaving their car at Hotel Drini, together with the car of the slain officer, the two relatives left and did not return. The testimony of the mother of the slain police officer, Besim Çera[?], provides an important clue in the investigation of this version. According to her, her son had met with his two cousins before the attack took place. In the statement given yesterday, the mother of the slain officer says that the two cousins of her son, who came from the Tropojë area, met and accompanied her son shortly before the attack. After the killing, the two cousins of the son had disappeared from Tiranë. A special group of police experts arrived last night at Rinas airport. Government sources said last night that the government of Prime Minister Fatos Nano has allocated a fund of $200,000 for the person who makes it possible to identify the person who killed Azem Hajdari. The FBI director assigned on mission in Albania is arriving in Tiranë together with specialist experts in terrorism and political attacks. This group is understood to have experience with such events and was investigating the attack on the Democratic deputy. A. BEJTA

The news, made public by the press office of this organization, was also confirmed last night by the spokesman for the Council of Europe. Yesterday afternoon, officially, the two senior diplomats, the Foreign Minister of Greece, Theodoros Pangalos[?], and the Foreign Minister of Poland, B. Geremek[?], sent a letter to the chairman of the PD, Sali Berisha, in which they remind him that recognition of Parliament and participation in it are part of fulfilling democratic standards. According to the letter, the opposition must abandon parliamentary boycott. At the same time, the foreign diplomats also criticize the government for further escalating the political situation, calling for respect for institutions. The letter emphasizes the role of President Rexhep Meidani as a factor of stability and calls on the parties to cooperate in overcoming the crisis. This statement was interpreted yesterday as a clear signal that the Council of Europe and international partners do not support the escalation of the political conflict in Albania.
