Andi Bejtja A few weeks after his resignation and the upheavals within his party, former Prime Minister Fatos Nano, weak on the scene as the ideologue and leader of a moderate left, is giving signs that he has not given up on returning as Prime Minister. Nano's idea is being floated at a time when his position in the Socialist Party has become very shaky, when he has somewhat lost control over the party's internal wing, and when many Albanians, because of the current Prime Minister's many new initiatives and the Constitution, have formed the impression that after the latter's term there will be early elections. In addition to this atmosphere, Nano's party has, above all, not achieved its first objective: membership in the Socialist International. In fact, this idea had already existed in Nano's mind, around 1994, when he himself was in Bënça prison. Since then, the chairman of the SP has spoken of the return of the Progressive Left, thinking of it not only as a unified bloc against Berisha's government, but also as a passport for breaking into international markets, which were themselves full of waves for the ship called “SP”. What will not change is our editorial line, which will always remain absolutely independent. Our newspaper will continue to oppose every form of violence and support dialogue; oppose every injustice by anyone and every form of illegality. We want to be even closer to the rights of the people, which politicians very often forget. We will try to make a greater contribution so that Albania can enter Europe and begin to prosper.
