The end of the end

By at times calling one leader an embryonic deformity and the other a horn-dog rap parody act in the communist cult of coins, as if with no respect at all for the personality and values of a political colleague, he speaks bluntly and headlong like a private man about businessmen or about the mouthpiece newspapers of those he does not even know. But if the latter had their own interest in the crossings and distortions of the arguments, then the Pyka of Shkumbin at least should have shown more restraint. Even if a party chairman or a former president were to speak that way, it does not make any less shameful the journalism used to fuel the conflict. In a climate where insult takes the place of reason, public speech becomes an instrument of lynching. That is what disgusts you more than anything else in today's debates. On page 13

Klosi uses the Festival

The castrated ones who spat on the press Alan Cani Yesterday, near the old Orthodox church in the center of Tirana, dozens of people gathered, but everything had only one purpose: to spit in the face of all Albanian creativity. The hall of the People's Theatre, located opposite, together with the rehearsal staff, the organizers' failure and the reserved hall, was violated like a center for maneuvering by writers and shabby journalists. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Rexhep Mejdani, in the name of his government, but in fact of his party, organized a shameful festival called "Icon of the Century", with the participation of only a group of bought and submissive representatives. This pseudo-festival was conceived to proclaim as idols of the decade the figures favored by certain political groups and not the genuine values of Albanian art. Minister Klosi was also involved in this miserable game, turning a cultural activity into a political tribune, where more was said about current interests than about art. The choice of guests, the way they were presented, and the spirit of the whole ceremony clearly showed that we were dealing with a hideous propaganda show. Journalists were not allowed to do their work normally, while the real public of culture remained outside. There was a great stir around the selected names, but no one gave convincing explanations. The officials present spoke of "success", although every detail showed the opposite. After all this, one bitter aftertaste remained: that a public event had been put at the service of a narrow political scheme, to produce noise and not value.
