The Democratic Party splits in two: Should we go, or not go, to Parliament?

Yesterday’s Democratic Party rally in Tirana (Photo: Plator Ilo) TIRANA - Fierce clashes in the National Council of the Democratic Party. After numerous debates, nothing has been decided regarding the return of the democrats to Parliament. The two opposing groups were polarized during yesterday’s marathon debate. MP Arbnori was of the opinion that the democrats should enter Parliament. Arbnori was backed by Genc Pollo, Fatos Beja, Xh. Vaso and Jozefina Topalli. Berisha was in favor of entering Parliament, although there were opponents who, from the other side, resisted to the point that the boycott was becoming final. Azem Hajdari, supported by Ylli Vejsiu, decided to engage in a fierce debate. After the heated exchanges, it was Genc Pollo who offered the compromise, consisting of an executive meeting of the branch offices in the districts and, after two weeks, the National Council giving the final verdict. The Democratic Party takes to the streets of the capital. Azem Hajdari returns to the role of protagonist in everything, as it is known. Jordan Dreshaj [?] is seen in a secondary role. Never before had Azem been as fragile as he was yesterday in the central square and at the students’ square. On page 2

Shkodër challenges boredom with the weapon of humor

Carnival returns after a long time SHKODËR - Carnival returns after many years of interruption. For some, Shkodranët showed yesterday that they have the genius of those who invented it and of celebrating the spirit. Yesterday in Shkodër it was Carnival day. For the first time after many years of interruption, after a long time of forgetting and after a long time of stress, poverty, politics, hatred, and who knows what else, finally the day arrived when many people came out into the streets wearing masks symbolizing the daily face of worries, to show it and to urge people to shed what they are during the other days of the year. It was an initiative by several Shkodër intellectuals organized with the activist of the Carnivals. Music, humor of the kind that has never been lacking in Shkodër, merriment and joy were what prevailed for hours in the squares and streets of the largest city in the North since yesterday. The rich program, unlike other shows, was broadcast on television for the first time and, while moving through the streets, ensured a real spectacle in many areas of the cheerful city. Led by a traditional carnival cart, the machine was the center that rumbled through the city streets, giving it the lively appearance of a city on a holiday. But as in every celebration, those who are intoxicated by joy more than anyone else feel that, in order to spend a beautiful day, they are burdened with responsibilities only afterwards. And for this reason, yesterday in Shkodër it was called Carnival.
