Unknown man killed over graves
TIRANA - Mysterious execution in a cemetery. A corpse was found yesterday morning in the first section of the Sharra cemetery, riddled with gunfire. The body belongs to a young man aged 25–30, who was killed the previous night at 20:30. Three pistol bullets shattered his skull, making him unrecognizable. The police found only a wallet and several telephone numbers, which are being checked, but so far without success. The only clue is that the victim had been in Tirana for a short time and was living with a girl from Tropoja. The police say the victim was shot at close range with pistol bullets.

TIRANA - Imposing an excise tax on kerosene with the aim of eliminating smuggling will not only raise the price of kerosene, but, contrary to what is hoped, also the price of diesel. Although the tax obligation for one litre of diesel will fall from 43.1 lekë to 31 lekë per litre, so logically the price should go down, it is hard to believe that this will actually happen. If traders sell pure diesel, on which they have paid a full 43 lekë per litre, the price of imported diesel will never, ever be reduced. But diesel costs 80 lekë or more on the market, and rather than reflecting the generosity of traders, this indicates the quality of the diesel, which is often mixed with kerosene. The state currently has price ceilings for diesel and petrol, but they have never been enforced. The government’s plans include liberalizing the diesel market, meaning traders will be free to sell it at whatever price the market dictates.

Official Tirana has finally also made public its option for resolving the conflict in Kosovo. Following Clinton’s envoy Gelbard’s visit to Tirana, Prime Minister Nano himself declared that Albanians should carefully consider the proposals of the international community.
