THE GENERAL PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE: WHO PROVOKED THE DARKNESS AND PANIC FOR TWO DAYS IN ALBANIA
Arjan Çani
The General Prosecutor's Office continues to keep under investigation the criminal case against the central leaders of KESH, the institution that plunged Albania into darkness. Last week was marked by two days of blackout in the country and not only there. That was enough to strongly inflame passions in the top hierarchy of the Prosecutor's Office and the Judicial Police attached to it. Such a fact makes it quite difficult to predict how far the investigation into KESH, the republican institution, may go, which, according to the preliminary indictment, has never taken even the necessary measures to prevent the arrival of darkness. The accusations and suspicions against KESH come at a moment when light is sought on the loss of 100 percent of electric energy in the capital, but also in other cities in Albania. This happened immediately after the burning of the Fierza electrical substation. This event caused drastic power cuts and became a pretext for public panic.
These initial data from the Prosecutor's Office indicate that KESH's decision to cut off the electricity supply was unjustified. According to investigators, there are suspicions that leaders of this institution acted with unjustifiable indifference. Moreover, according to them, there are also signs of negligence in relation to repair procedures and the management of the energy system.
On the other hand, experts questioned by the prosecution body have expressed different opinions about the real causes of the transformer fire and its consequences. This is also the reason why documents, contracts, orders and administrative responsibilities are being gathered.
