Foreign photojournalist attacked DP rally: Stones and three police officers injured Foreign photojournalist attacked DP rally: Stones and three police officers injured On page 4 The two faces of the DP Yesterday, commenting on the departure from Albania of OSCE envoy Xhovani Porta—threatened with death by “unknown persons”—the Democratic Party issued a statement in which it welcomed Porta’s departure, while at the same time “condemning any kind of threat against Albanian or foreign citizens.” In short, this means: Our party (suspected of inspiring the threats against Xhovani Porta) threatens no one. A few hours later, Sali Berisha’s spokesperson, Edi Paloka, publicly threatened Albanian journalists: “If you distort the news about the American journalist—attacked yesterday—each of you will answer with your head.” He said this last night at 18:45, in front of the Government headquarters, during the Democratic Party demonstration. In other words, a death threat made directly, not by means of an anonymous phone call. After this, we need to understand what the Democratic Party’s real position is: what it writes in its press statements, or the threats made last night by its spokesperson, Paloka? The Democratic Party must clarify this. The police and institutions, against which the Democratic Party protests every day, can defend themselves. In the newspapers, we must defend ourselves with the means at our disposal: for this reason, until this Party stops threatening journalists, Gazeta Shqiptare and radio RASH will no longer cover its activities for security reasons, but we will continue to write if events and incidents like last night’s happen again.
