THE NEWSPAPER IS TRYING TO COME BACK TO LIFE... WILL THE PEOPLE OF LEZHA KEEP IT ALIVE? Recently the idea has also become even more widespread that the time for a pluralist press has come in our country. Especially after the special law on this issue entered into force, removing any monopoly in this field. In our district there has been a need for a press organ, but as such there was only one newspaper here, which became the mouthpiece of the Party of Labour and did not always defend the interests of the masses, but its own. Nevertheless, it had its value. Therefore, efforts to revive this press organ after many vicissitudes should be welcomed. For a long time no newspaper could be seen in the kiosks of our country. This not only did not help citizens, but they have the right to be informed. In this sense, the appearance of the first issue of "Koha jonë" is positive. An important question is whether the people of Lezhë will support it, the way the people of Korçë support and buy their newspaper "Korça". Open criticism, without flattery, and the concrete problems arising from the many hardships of the people would be the most welcome reading and would make the newspaper an effective tool, if there is courage and competence. Empty praise and the demagoguery that used to be accepted must come to an end. We live in the time of free speech and free information. The citizen has the right to know how he is governed, who lies and who deceives. Local press must also feel this mission. Through the newspaper, the voices of ordinary people, of the countryside and the town, of the unemployed, of the youth, and of intellectuals will be able to rise and express free opinion. The newspaper must not remain a formal tribune, but a true reflection of everyday life. This requires correctness, responsibility, and above all honesty. If it succeeds in doing this, it will find its readers. Otherwise, it will remain only another attempt. PROGRAM OF THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER "KOHA JONË" The local newspaper "Koha jonë" will cooperate closely with all journalists of the district and, in every case, will give them the opportunity to freely express through it their own problems and concerns. Through this newspaper we will make known the concerns of our life, of course to help as much as possible in finding ways to solve them. The newspaper will be a free tribune of thought. It will publish materials from the fields of economy, culture, education, healthcare, agriculture, sport, etc. It will pay special attention to the problems of the village and agricultural cooperatives, enterprises, institutions, and cultural and artistic life. It will reflect successes, but also weaknesses, while preserving impartiality and truth. In this way the newspaper aims to become the moral property of the Lezhë reader. The Yugoslav national road authority is also legally authorized to administer and take care of the maintenance of the road that passes through the city of Shëngjin.
