From Lezhë’s Serbiai: «OCTOPUS 6»

From Lezhë’s Serbiai: «OCTOPUS 6» Main protagonist: PJETER NIKA A sudden turnaround. A few weeks ago they approached me, or rather spoke to me, in a state advisory role Pjetri — from Karjeka. The way they approached me, as if he were ordering it, and all the others, the one who owns them and the people under mask. In the evening: “they are from a village or a neighborhood, one of the gentlemen with the experience of a doctor, of zeal and another one in Kosovo, but he has a beautiful little boat as if it were a sail. I found a suitable job in this work, having already had these promises. It is known that even earlier I had had a very close connection with them. He was for possession the troublesome brashness, a word was enough and I was ready to give it. Whereas I would not have trusted them with some kind of cunning, like police of the system of a center. I knew that they were much more interested in something, which gave me a greatness not very clear; during my visit, as a completely ordinary matter, there was again an offer that they made in a most shameless and astonishing way. It was this: to become one of them! In these troubled times, to run and serve a cause that was in no way mine. They told me that with this I could save myself and my family. And then they explained to me what had to be done, who they were and what they represented. Their words seemed to me a filthy temptation, wrapped in a cloak of care and security. But for me it was a vile challenge. At first I opposed. The next day they took me to court. An Aisa, a Security chief, and several others seized me with questions, explanations and perhaps also veiled threats. “Come on, don’t make it harder,” they told me. They said they knew my background, my connections, my friends, my family very well. And they addressed me in a tone as if they had me in their hands. There it became clear that the whole purpose was fear and submission. I won’t go on. This went on for a few days. Then it continued with other meetings, with suggestions, with sweet words and thin nets. Their questions always returned to Kosovo, to people, to movements, to thoughts. It became clear to me that they wanted information and cooperation from me. They wanted a man they could insert among us, present as one of their own and with whom many doors could be left open. Finally, after many roundabouts and trickery, I refused. I refused with conviction, even though I knew this could cost me. Thus I saw more clearly the true face of that mechanism: not only pressure, but also temptation, not only surveillance, but also contamination. At the head of this game stood Pjeter Nika. His name appears constantly, as organizer, as a man of connections, as the protagonist of a network that extends more widely. Therefore this is not a private story, but an issue that affects many people. These are some of the facts I wanted to make public.

• Two of my friends interfered to buy the article • Anonymous phone calls: “Do not publish the article. We will blow you up with dynamite!” • On Tuesday two anonymous persons with pistols and cans of ammonia in their hands ask: “Are you burning down the editorial office as well as the house of editor-in-chief Nikollë Lëshi?”

Reported about the shadow colleague in ZP

NIKOLLE LESI Very unpleasantly, the warning signs of self-ignition speak to you in words, especially when it is not very serious, because either it wraps the words around you as you wish, or it takes them away as an innocent person, but it lets you understand that someone is behind your back, someone who watches and follows. That happened to me too, while I was closely following the case of Pjetër Nika and his links to a dark network. Sometimes it seems they only want to frighten you; other times, they make it perfectly clear that they are ready to go further. Not long ago, I saw for myself how in our editorial office the calls, signs, and warnings began to increase. Someone wanted to know what would be published, someone else begged that the article not come out, while others tried to present this as a misunderstanding. But when one connects everything together, a frightening picture emerges: there is an organized effort to stop publication, to restrain a public voice, to silence a newspaper. In this file the name of Pjetër Nika appears, meetings appear, routes, intermediaries, people moving from one office to another, trying to cover one link with another. Part of this climate are also the threats against the editorial office. No one should take this lightly. Freedom of the press is not protected by declarations, but by clear positions and civic courage. This is not the first time someone has tried to pressure a newspaper. But what is happening now has a different weight. It is linked to a specific topic, to specific names, to a man who according to many testimonies is mentioned as an important link in a suspicious scheme. Therefore the publication of this material is not only a professional act, but also a moral duty. In the end, everyone may ask: whom are they so afraid of? Why all this noise over an article? The answer is simple: because free speech frightens those who want darkness. And when the truths draw near, threat becomes their last weapon.
