PREÇ ZOGAJ IS ELIMINATED FROM THE PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDACY Who is next after him? The main thing happened. Preç Zogaj, the most important poet with the greatest cultural potential that the left and the Republican Party have, has now withdrawn from the candidacy and is being replaced by Mr. Sokoli of the Party of Labour. How unexpected was this exclusion from democracy? The Party of Labour took great care to open the new women without anyone noticing. It turned its back on Mr. Preç Zogaj at the moment when he no longer served its purpose. Thus, the suppression of his candidacy was also a lesson to others. By exerting political pressure, through propaganda or other means, it eliminated an intellectual who has established himself through the journalism of this time. In the climate created after the elections of 31 March, some old and new forces became visible. A part of the reaction that seeks a return to the past and another part of the old conservatives, tied to the power of yesterday, tried to turn what had been stained into guilt and merit. Under this pressure, the figure of Preç Zogaj was increasingly targeted. He is treated as a voice that cannot fit into their scheme. In truth, Preç Zogaj is not an imported figure. He became known as a poet and journalist with a good and civic culture. He has been part of the recent changes and has spoken publicly about them. Precisely for this reason he became unwelcome in an environment where the logic of exclusion still prevails today. The spokesperson of “Voice of America” would do well not to get involved in party debates. He is extremely valuable for an informational mission. Using radio for certain inspirations would damage the credibility of the information itself. Truths are not won with anger or with denigrating insistence. They require a civic language and argument. If this is not preserved, then free speech slips easily into propaganda. This is what Albanians can no longer accept after years of isolation.
