How long will the government be unable to find a solution to our poverty
HOW LONG WILL THE GOVERNMENT BE
ABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION TO
OUR POVERTY
This is a question asked by every honest Albanian, because day after day he sees that the miserable situation gripping the country is steadily worsening, becoming extremely serious and bleak. The conditions of poverty in which the Albanian people are living are well known and do not need to be repeated. The most important thing is to find the ways and means to improve this situation.
So far, many things have been said and written. Some efforts have also been made, but to this day the situation remains the same. The new government has inherited a difficult economic situation, but that does not absolve it of the responsibility to find solutions. The people cannot wait forever. They are asking for bread, work, shelter, and a more secure future for their children.
In the electoral programs and promises, there was talk of democracy, a market economy, increased production, and investments. Yet for the ordinary citizen, these words have so far remained only words. The shops are empty, prices rise every day, unemployment is high, and aid is insufficient. This creates disappointment and dissatisfaction.
It is not enough to say that the past is to blame. Of course, the past has left deep wounds, but the government was elected precisely to heal them. For this reason, citizens expect concrete action, not endless explanations. If quick and courageous measures are not taken, poverty will deepen even further.
The state must establish order, fight speculation, support producers, ensure the supply of essential goods, and protect the poorest sections of society. Only in this way can people’s lost trust be restored. Otherwise, popular dissatisfaction will grow, and that serves no one.
The question remains: until when? Until when will the government continue to make promises without providing solutions? Until when will citizens see only words and not deeds? Until when will poverty remain part of our daily lives? These questions must be answered as soon as possible.
Dr. Rugova - the first President of the Republic of Kosovo
DR. RUGOVA - THE FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC
OF KOSOVO
Among all these republics displaced in Slovenia and Croatia, it was precisely the Kosovo population that suffered the most and provided a clear example of misery. For this reason, the establishment of a Kosovar state showed that the Kosovo population is being treated as refugees. The President of Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova, in a letter sent at the beginning of May to the Hague International Conference, requested that the situation of the Kosovo population be treated as a separate problem.
Today and in the future, he appears as the first leader of the political will of this country. On 24 May 1992, the first solutions for Kosovo’s independence took on a clearer form. By being elected president, he represents the hope of a Kosovo population which, despite Serbian terror, has again decided to follow the path of democracy and independence.
Doctor Rugova has many presidents in the world, but the Kosovo population sees in him its most legitimate and acceptable representative. Sali Berisha welcomed with satisfaction the decision of the Kosovo Assembly, which elected Rugova president of the republic. Once again, the Kosovo population considered that it had set out on its peaceful path. The republic, and with its new solution, rightly belongs to its institutions.
On the other hand, the international community has clearly understood that the Kosovars are no longer an unidentified crowd, but a people with political will, elected representatives, and a clear state program.
