According to rumors circulating lately, it is being said that the President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, has met with the chairman of the PS, Mr. Fatos Nano. It is not known how accurate this information is, but it is quite possible that the meeting took place, since journalist Luan Rama, in a report on Mr. Nano’s visit to Kucovë, used the subtitle: «Fatos Nano meets President Berisha», without giving even a single detail about this meeting. How can it be explained that no clarification about it has been given by the two party newspapers «RD» and «ZP»? Should this meeting remain secret? And if so, why? The rumors circulating raise the hypothesis that the meeting in question may be connected with some possible changes in the cabinet of ministers headed by Mr. Meksi. Nevertheless, these are hypotheses that could be verified if even the slightest clarification were provided by either side. It is possible that the meeting is also connected with some possible and unexpected political «alliance». For our part, we will try to provide further clarifications in coming issues. Officials should show greater transparency.

After an interruption of 5 months, the newspaper «Koha jonë» has reappeared on the Albanian press scene, but TD, the PD newspaper for the Tirana district, directed by Mr. Afrim Krasniqi. The attacks and numerous slanders this newspaper has made against the newspaper «Koha jonë» are already well known, but we thought that now this newspaper would reflect and take a realistic stance on problems and events, showing that it truly is a democratic newspaper, as it claims and as its title (Democratic Tribune) suggests. But it was not to be: in both issues, this newspaper has not published a single article that does not mention «Koha jonë», not even where it went, either... ALEXANDER FRANGAJ (continued on page 2)

READ IN THE NEXT ISSUE NESHAT TOZAJ The «jesters of democracy» who have taken it upon themselves to lead us toward Europe are, unfortunately for them (but more so for us), moving from one scandal to another... Mr. Pobrati, too, tosses a handful of salt into the white sugar bowl while you are carefully preparing it, by publishing the letter that the family sent to the President of the Republic. The letter reached the President’s office 20 days after L. Pobrati had completed his 42-day imprisonment. Here, Mr. Gazide-de, let us be frank: he has fooled the parliament and Albanian public opinion. Only the President knew that the letter had arrived (who has a relationship with Gazidede that is not merely collegial), in order to bring the scandal to a close... A grave responsibility, a shameful complicity...

This is a question many people asked during these days when our newspaper did not come out. The rumors were all sorts: it had been blocked, it would no longer be published, and so on, and so on. The truth is that «Koha jonë» did not have paper to publish regularly.
