President Berisha declares:
“This year Albanians will spend the winter better than last year because they will have their own homes”
ONLY THAT?
Could it really be forgetfulness
Visitors asking questions sent to the president at the press conference on the 24th, organized before the meeting with Albanian journalists about packages and the cards. But the president either forgot it or underestimated this question. His general answer is in the journalist’s sentence. Meanwhile, the president seems more interested in reassuring us about this winter, which means how much he has in his pocket and not about details; it comes out twice a week, and they write right there with four letters.
We have forgiven the scheme and the enemies, journalists, since prices are high and spending is heavy. The press has built other people’s wealth to the detriment of the newspaper. He studied and was not only a writer but also in the government office. This newspaper, which stands out for its work and its confusion and not for its name. In a way, it is an excessive question to ask how people have managed, because they have been tolerated to live on their consumption and only that kind of respect, the new turn, more for the questions. These are tolerated to make a press conference, we do it in our own home.
And what about those who are still homeless — where will they spend the winter?
Dramatic. Has winter not caught many Tirana residents, more than any other city in the country? But they have no reason to come knocking on officials’ doors, since they — and many others in the districts — are facing a fact that has caught them unprepared. Has the government not been unprepared as well? In these days, to see up close the life of the homeless, our journalist met a mother with two children. She was living in a damp and cold room. It had been two days since the electricity had been cut off. No one had explained to her when it would be restored. The children were asking for bread. She sat there in silence. “How are we supposed to make it?” she asked. And likewise for many other families, winter has arrived without warning and without a solution. In some damaged buildings, in unsuitable schools, and in temporary shelters, people are waiting for fate’s mercy.
Tirana, more than any other city, with its homeless, has been hit by a winter that is not only cold but also unfair. And the question remains: where will these people stay in the cold? Is there a concrete answer from those who make promises? And if not, is this not a tragedy unfolding before our eyes?
