ATSH director categorizes Albanian journalists

At a press seminar organized by the German Ebert Foundation, ATSH director Mr. Ilir Zhilla took the floor and said: “…today I would divide journalists into three groups: left-wing, right-wing, and those who prostitute themselves.” In making this statement, Mr. Zhilla apparently did not consider that he and the journalists at the agency he heads can be neither left-wing nor right-wing; this is determined by the agency’s statute. 13. It is a spirited newspaper; it knows how to play on sensationalism and seize on whatever is most topical at the moment. It has professional pride and professionalism. But it has not been independent for some time. Criticizing a cabinet, or what seems to you to be so in the President, the Government, or the PD, is an act of civic and democratic courage; but making this the main aim and doing so whether justified or not is destabilizing. “Koha Jonë” has forgotten that there is also an opposition in Albania, with responsibility not only for the past but also for the current situation. Why such an oversight?!...
