According to information from a source who asked not to be identified for fear of the trial against Nexhmije Hoxha and its rules, the defendant Nexhmije Hoxha almost always has a notebook of notes in her hand. In this notebook, in a special place, she has also written down possible questions to ask during the trial. One of the questions that can just barely be read out of the corner of one’s eye in her notebook is addressed to the President of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Berisha. It is framed more or less like this: — Mr. Berisha, your prosecutors accuse me of misusing state property by keeping used and unused curtains, drinking coffee and inviting people to my home, or even buying hunting guns for the children. I also want to ask you, Mr. President, what military equipment did you use to travel from Dajti to Tirana, where you had gone to celebrate and spend New Year’s? What law of the democratic state was this act based on? We do not know when Nexhmije Hoxha will ask this question. We also cannot vouch for the exact wording. But one thing is certain: just as Nexhmije Hoxha used curtains and bought a shotgun, on 2 January 1993, along the streets of the capital, military armored vehicles—also known as “diagaqe”—were driving to snowy Mount Dajti, where President Berisha had summoned them. It is also known that the President was there with his whole family and some friends, in a villa belonging to the senior leadership, to spend New Year’s. On Saturday, as we are informed, during the trial, Nexhmije Hoxha, fleshing out the meaning of the question above, had said that her expenses over 45 years were no greater than the expenses of democratic leaders over just 10 months, for plane tickets alone. She is also said to have added that these expenses may be incurred, but the new leadership should be careful to draw the appropriate conclusions, so that they too do not end up late on the defendants’ bench.”

According to a reliable source inside the television station, who asked not to be identified, the deputy director of television submitted his resignation in writing to the Director General after only five months in the post. The real reason has not yet been learned, but various explanations are being offered around the institution, ranging from health reasons to his appointment as head of propaganda at the Democratic Party (PD). We believe Leka Bungo himself will explain the real reason for his resignation, unless he was joking, as is his habit.

As we have been informed, the television crew consisting of journalist Arjan Melonashi, cameraman Gazmir Shtino, and sound operator Arjan Negro, who were fired immediately after interviewing MP Azem Hajdari (the enigmatic interview) and after winning their cases at every level, are not being allowed to return to work. Skënder Buçpapa is extremely determined, bold, and persistent in this decision, and his power even overrides the rulings of the courts of our democratic government established after 22 March. Of course, he has the right to disregard the state’s laws too, since he ranks among President Berisha’s friends and patriots. If the communists obey the law for fear of being punished, the democrats obey it out of a genuine desire to build a democratic state governed by the rule of law. Skënder Buçpapa, appointed to that post by the PD, does not obey the law of the state he represents. So whom does Skënder Buçpapa work for, and whom does he serve?!

There are many, many letters, which the editorial staff has selected and will publish from time to time in the pages of this newspaper. We think they will interest readers, since they shed light on many incomprehensible events that have been taking place in Albania for two years now. Journalist Melaim Zeka came to Albania as a correspondent for Swedish TV and the TR news agency, to cover the trial of Nexhmie Hoxhës and Kino Buxhelit. For work-related needs … [?], journalist Zeka entered into a lawful contract with Albanian TV to be provided with a cameraman together with a camera.
