Now Mr. Sali Berisha wants to leave the game. When children are playing and, by accident, the weaker one wins, but is also a sore loser, what does he do? He immediately leaves the game and says: “We’re not playing anymore.” That is what Mr. Sali Berisha did too: He dismissed people from their jobs, left the opposition without bread, used the power of the state to attack and harm his opponents, drove people to the point of exasperation, and made them his enemies; windows were broken and warehouses were destroyed, Albania was filled with rubbish, the state’s dollars “disappeared,” the state was destroyed, people were disillusioned, and now Mr. Sali Berisha tells you: “Let’s stop the game; you stay where you are, and I’ll stay where I am.” Normally, the game goes on. — Read the article entitled: “President Berisha pretends he has just come down from the Moon,” written by L. As we have learned from several sources, yesterday morning the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Zëri i Popullit,” Mr. Thoma Gëllçi, appeared at the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office, accused of “undermining unity in the army through articles published in the newspaper he directs.” The complaint was filed by Minister Zhulali. According to our source, the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office may decide to place editor-in-chief Gëllçi under house arrest.

At a press conference held on Monday at the SP headquarters, its chairman, Fatos Nano, called for the government’s resignation in an official statement. Meanwhile, this statement was nothing new, since it had been repeated at many rallies organized in SP districts; it seems to have caused considerable upheaval in Albanian political life. The fact that it came immediately after President Berisha’s press conference, where he appeared to make a marked concession to the opposition, shows that the SP was not satisfied with political cooperation alone but wanted something more. At the conference, Nano described the government team as incapable and said that its continued tenure could bring nothing but harm. In this connection, scandals involving state corruption, which have recently also been exposed by the press, were mentioned. At the conference it was declared that a new political solution was needed and that the SP was a political force capable of governing the country in cooperation with the other political forces.
