Many of us doubted what Nano said. The truth of this was also confirmed yesterday by former Sigurimi officer Luan Pobrati. Mr. Pobrati, as a longtime Sigurimi employee who knows its collaborators well, names some of the Sigurimi’s collaborators who are now in power in his article «Berisha under Gazidede’s dictate». The first is Pjetër Arbnori, with KOROMANIA, followed in turn by comrades: Petrika Minga, «TRIMI»; Leka Bungo, «I PENDUARI», Blerim Kale’s father, «Mentori»; he also identifies Abdi Baleta as a denouncer and witness. Pobrati then leaves you to infer that President Sali Berisha also collaborated with the State Security, although he does not state his pseudonym. We believe the statement by the former Albanian Sigurimi officer concerning senior State leaders will compel our deputies to insist on opening the files. We do not know how the newspaper RD—which in every issue calls every opponent a Sigurimi collaborator—will react to members of its own party. If what Pobrati says is true, can the Albanian democrats who voted against the infamous State Security accept a collaborator called «KOROMANIA» at the head of the Albanian Parliament? Can Albanians accept being represented in Parliament by former Sigurimi spies? All the more so if President Berisha is one of them. Why are the files not being opened? Those who are afraid are the ones who do not open the files.

According to a statement addressed to President Sali Berisha, the hunger strikers in the Shkodër district announce that if Mr. Berisha does not repeal the law on land, we will sacrifice ourselves. «We will achieve this through the following measures,» they declare. «The immediate discontinuation of medical assistance, and the cutting off of water and electricity. We will close off all means of communication with the outside, such as the entrance door, the windows, etc. Anyone who attempts to enter will meet the same death as us. This will happen starting on June 10, 1993, Thursday. This will no longer be a hunger strike, but a DEATH STRIKE.» All the hunger strikers have signed this statement knowingly.

In a press statement sent to us by the leadership of the former prisoners’ strike, it says that tomorrow, June 10, many members and former hunger strikers will begin a hunger strike. In this statement, the leadership clearly sets out the demands that have been repeated several times and have fallen on the deaf ears of those in power. Their demands are economic but also political, and concern the denial to former prisoners of the political-prisoner status they are entitled to, the disappearance of aid provided to former persecuted people, etc.

Naturally, this «rebuttal» also included accusations against «Koha Jonë».
