THE DEPUTIES ANSWER VASIL GJIKA — DP deputy: It doesn’t seem simple to me to answer, and I don’t think people or others’ opinions can have any particular interest. What matters is for the law on the files to clarify the truth. FATOS NANO — SP deputy: There are some, but I don’t believe they make up the majority of the ruling majority. MARASH IBRAJ — DP deputy: Since they don’t come out in favor of opening the files, I think there are collaborators. If they weren’t collaborators, if they were all clean, why don’t they pass the law (on the files)? To me, this is essential. Secondly, I think there are no collaborators in the Socialist group. They’ve run out of time to clean out their files. In the DP group, I don’t know any by name, but the silence around not opening the files makes me suspect that someone has an interest in keeping them closed. This is my personal opinion. Late one evening last week, SP chairman Fatos Nano met with the Republic’s Prosecutor General, Alush Dragoshi. According to informed sources, who did not wish to be identified, the meeting was held secretly in one of the rooms of a luxurious private restaurant in Tirana. If this information is true, then what was Alush Dragoshi seeking from the SP leader, or vice versa, given that Blerim Çela’s accusations weigh on Nano?

Continuing in its style of imitating a hopeless pupil, the DP daily newspaper, «RD», published a letter from Enver to Nano on Sunday, on page two. What immediately caught the eye was that, among other things, Enver «gave instructions» to attack the leaders of the DP and the government in the press. And, according to «RD», the leaders were listed in this order: Pjetër Arbnori, Sali Berisha, Petrika Minga, Eduard Selami. Why on earth has Arbnori moved into first place, the President into second, and the new DP chairman into last place, after the brave Minga? We don’t believe this was based on the attacks the opposition has made against them, because it is well known that Mr. Berisha has been targeted by the opposition press 100 times more than Arbnori. So why this ranking? We asked Hajdari, a member of the DP Steering Committee and an MP, about this, and he told us: «This change in protocol means that, apparently, the fundamentalists of T. Dosti, the famous Ballists in the DP, the followers of Tanzim, have begun a witch hunt against the President.»

A few days ago, the Tirana District Prosecutor’s Office formally asked the German ministry to extradite to Albania Qemal Lame, former head of the General Investigation Directorate during the events of April 2, 1991, in Shkodër. Qemal Lame is accused by the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office of «abuse of office». He left for Germany several months ago, and his exact address is still unknown. The German authorities have not yet sent a reply to the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office. We are also informed that the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office made the same request for Ferit Sula, former deputy head of the General Investigation Directorate.
