A protest against the PRESS LAW, and an appeal to the President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, to return this law to the People’s Assembly for reconsideration. A large number of national and local newspapers will begin a 48-hour strike tomorrow to protest against the Press Law. The newspapers taking part in the strike will not be published tomorrow or the day after. These newspapers are: 1. «Koha Jonë» (independent newspaper) 2. «Populli Po» (independent newspaper). 3. «Lajmëtar i» (independent newspaper). 4. «Dita informacion» (independent newspaper). 5. «Adriatiku» (independent local newspaper of Durrës). 6. «Java», independent newspaper of Gjirokastër, Tepelenë and Përmet). 7. «Shqip» (independent newspaper). 8. «Zëri i Popullit» (newspaper of the Socialist Party). 9. «Aleanca» (newspaper of the Democratic Alliance Party). 10. «Alternativa SD» (newspaper of the Social Democratic Party). 11. «24 Orë» (socialist newspaper). Note: The newspapers «Koha Jonë» and «Lajmëtar i» will not be published on Tuesday and Wednesday. On the occasion of the announcement of the strike, the above-mentioned newspapers issued the following statement:

Our ministers have finally decided to make a decision that concerns themselves. Thus, at a meeting of the Council of Ministers, a decision was made effective on 16 September, (concerning the amount of government per diems during their visits abroad). Under the decision, the daily allowance abroad for the President is 100 dollars, for the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Assembly 80 dollars, for members of parliament 70 dollars, for ministers 65 dollars, and deputy ministers and equivalent dignitaries will receive 50 dollars. As for those travelling in the country, in fact, both government officials who receive these allowances and those invited by institutions will have their expenses covered.

Shkodër: Lek Draga killed in Shkodër over a blood feud On Wednesday, 13 October, at 13:30, in the «Partizani» neighbourhood of Shkodër, behind building 8, citizen Lek Draga was killed for blood-feud-related motives.

On Thursday, 14 October, near the «Luigj Gurakuqi» University of Shkodër, a young woman was abducted by occupants of a car with no licence plate. The woman’s fate is still unknown.
