Work is underway in Albania to establish personal rule
“PDD appeals to the people and to all political forces that cherish freedom and democracy to oppose attempts to establish personal rule, a new dictatorship just as brutal and just as destructive as the half-century-long communist dictatorship.”
Petrit Kalakula and his party oppose the Constituent Assembly decreed by the President

Drugs in the courtroom
Greek man who possessed them sentenced to 4 years
He will spend 4 years of his new life in Albanian prisons, starting in one month. Now the difficult years in prison begin for Kostandinos Kalofetas, the Greek citizen accused of drug trafficking and unlawful possession of a firearm. The sentence sought by the prosecutor—4 years’ imprisonment—was taken into consideration by the panel of judges, presided over by Mr. Igli Toska, which handed down its decision yesterday.
Against Kostandinos Kalofetas, the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office had ordered “house arrest” in the first days of June this year. Initially, the Greek citizen, a businessman by profession, had fallen into a trap set by Police Station No. 1 in the centre of the capital: a firearm was found, and then, as the investigation was pursued further, during another search carried out in neighbourhood No. 11, the police also managed to find 300 g of drugs. However, since no such people appeared before the judges, it seems that the investigations begun immediately after the security measure was imposed did not fully clarify the facts. Kalofetasi, who had come to Tirana in 1991 to conduct business, left the courtroom tearful and pale, perhaps regretful that he had embarked on this adventure on Albanian soil.
The number of convictions of traffickers in the “white death” is also rising in Albania. In 1993 alone, 15 cases of drug trafficking were recorded, while this year the figure has multiplied several times over.
