Berisha proposes an Albania-Greece ministerial meeting
The Albanian president, Sali Berisha, proposed on Monday a meeting between Albanian ministers and the Greek minister to discuss the crisis between the two countries, which came to a head following an official communiqué published in the Albanian capital.
It is believed that such a meeting, between Ahmed Serreqi and Karolos Papoulias, between the secretary and the second minister sent to New York, would take place within the framework of the talks held for the first time between the two countries after the improvement at the UN. Serreqi left Tirana on Monday for New York.
The Albanian president made this suggestion during a reception on Monday in Tirana hosted by the Austrian Chancellor, Franz Vranitsky, about whom he said that they were in essence the official talks published in the Albanian capital.
Berisha said that an Albania-Greece ministerial meeting would be very useful. "This meeting can be held either bilaterally or with a third party present."
Vranitsky delivered to Berisha a message from the Bulgarian president, Zhelyu Zhelev, saying that the Albanian government was confronting the current crisis between Albania and Greece, which had escalated after the involvement of the international community in efforts to eliminate the tension between Tirana and Athens.
