Raid to Stop the Fuel Trade

Shkodër 3,000 liters of fuel seized and 40 people detained Shkodër Raid to Stop the Fuel Trade 3,000 liters of fuel seized and 40 people detained The raid by special forces arriving from Tirana to stop the fuel trade was swift and unexpected. Everything happened on the evening of September 27 in the border village of Muriqan. The result: 3,000 liters of fuel seized and 40 people detained. On the morning of the 28th, the large number of people gathered outside the Shkodër police station stood out; they were looking for their relatives. Many of them had been picked up in various border areas, some while fishing, or had nothing at all to do with the fuel issue. The seized fuel, which is alleged to have been caught while being taken across the border, consisted of several barrels and canisters of fuel; even if it was being smuggled, it was nothing more than a way to make ends meet. Another fact also stands out: this operation was carried out precisely on the days when the Montenegrin side had closed the border and was not allowing anyone from Albania to cross, for fear of cholera. Although we were unable to obtain official information, several police station employees stressed to us that many of those detained would be released, since there was no proof that they had been caught smuggling. Apparently, the forces from Tirana carried out their mission and left the concern at other people’s doorstep—those who must justify the arrest or otherwise of the 40 people accused of smuggling. Yesterday in Germany -The fire was set in revenge Yesterday in Germany Two Kosovars Burned in Their Sleep -The fire was set in revenge The 23-year-old young Albanian woman from Kosovo is grieving for those close to her who fell victim to a criminal fire set in Herford. The shared tragedy is thought to have occurred as a result of an act of revenge, police in the city in the northwest confirmed. At first, investigators had put forward the hypothesis of a racist attack, based on the origins of the two victims, and for this reason the relevant federal section for terrorism matters had taken over the investigation. But on Wednesday evening the police announced the arrest of two Turks suspected of the crime (Continued on page 2)
