They want to make us scapegoats" - declares one defendant After a year and more of uproar over the entry of the embargo with tanker trucks carrying smuggled diesel, after repeated failures of the anti-smugglers, after accusations involving various figures in power and even the president by a local newspaper, after the uproar over an "ecological disaster" with tanker trucks darkening the hills near Kavajë, the trial of the case of the great border scandal began on 18/7/1994, at 11:00; the panel was assigned to be handled by judge Besnik Kurbishtë. The defendants present were Osman Kurti, Nikolin Nanga, Albert Ajhni, Ded Simon, Viktor Nikolli, and Haxhi Cakoli, accused of the criminal offense of fuel smuggling in cooperation. The trial panel was chaired by the court president Xhodoj(?) i Pëdoci(?). The defendant denied the charges presented, claiming that only... It is important to note the complete mismatch between the defendants’ guilt and the report of the flagrante arrest that was given to them. The defendants said that the verdict was reached with whatever condition they themselves had been accused of. The accusation that we signed without understanding. The defendants asked to be represented by a lawyer from the prison defense service. Their request was for release because they were said to be one judge, Gjyjon.
